Re: Air Ride Install - '69 Chevrolet SWB Stepside
Sounds like you have 4.10's.
Look here: http://www.ringpinion.com/Calc_RPM.aspx 4.10 gear 27" tall tire 80 mph Comes out to 4082 rpm's.

Re: Air Ride Install - '69 Chevrolet SWB Stepside
With 235/55 17's and a 3.07 ratio you should be turning 2847 rpm's. With a 3.73 it's still only 3459 rpm's. Even a 4.11 should only turn 3811 rpm's. All of that is at 75 mph and assuming no clutch slippage.
**edit** Damn, I missed your post, Keith.

Re: Air Ride Install - '69 Chevrolet SWB Stepside
After putting my wife's SM465 in after the frame swap I can say they are WAY heavy! Sounds like you need a car 4-speed (preferably a Muncie, but a Saginaw would be easier on the wallet) and some 3.08's.

Very nice! I like the finish on your frame, I don't think you should powdercoat it.

Yep, it's official. I've gotta do air ride. How wide in inches are your rear wheels and tires?

Re: Air Ride Install - '69 Chevrolet SWB Stepside
Lookin good.
When i lower my truck its the same way, i have to continiously tap the button so it doesnt hit the dirt hard. Is there something you can do to make it where you can just hit the button and it wont lower so fast in the front? Some kind of valve?

Re: Air Ride Install - '69 Chevrolet SWB Stepside
yea they have slow down valves so you dont crack the concrete when you drop it.
here is a quick search http://www.airbagit.com/SearchResult...rch=speed+down

Re: Air Ride Install - '69 Chevrolet SWB Stepside
It would be cool if they made something that logarithmically allows less flow, to start out dumping hard and gradually lessen the flow as the PSIs drop. Wishful thinking?

Re: Air Ride Install - '69 Chevrolet SWB Stepside
Kyle,
my tires are 225/55/17 or 8.86" cross section. I checked the clearance before I removed the bed and I room to spare when completely aired out. wanna buy them?!! All, Yep, I was trying to slow down the dump in the video. I plan on using exhaust fittings on the dump valves which will slow down the drop a bit. glad Keith (lolife99) discouraged me from running 1/2" line. talk about hitting hard!!! I had a tank fitting that I noticed was leaking a bit the first time I fired up the compressor. since I built this system with ease of component removal in mind, it was a test to see how fast I could remove a complete valve setup and fix the problem. after 5 minutes, the leak was fixed. guess I did okay......
