Test fit the gas tank tonight so I can get some mounting brackets welded on at work tomorrow. I have made a template out of trusty cardboard.

This height will place my sump and fittings about 3.5" off the ground when layed out. This should be sufficient.

I had our protoype cell at the shop weld this up. It is Tig welded, they do a great job due to welding pressure vessels on a daily basis.

Re: 1970 SWB - Porterbuilt to the Extreme

Here is how I decided to run my gas line through the frame.

Used a 3/8" coupling and welded it into the side if the frame. Put a 3/8" npt 90 deg barb fitting. Connected a 3 ft stainless braided hose and ran it through the top of the notch. It seems like it will work out nicely.

My boy decided to come down in his Jammie's and snow boots for a couple rides on the frame as it goes up and down. It is just as fun for him as it is me.

Re: 1970 SWB - Porterbuilt to the Extreme

I started to take my gauge cluster apart to clean it. I actually have two so I am going to try a couple different things. I already know what the stock look looks like so I am going to ask our label maker at work to make me some new lettering for the gauge window.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"

Got my driveshaft mocked up today, thanks for the measurements Keith/Bennett68C10. I hope to get it to the driveline shop for shortening, new bearings and joints this week.

I also cut off the horrible cab corner replacements someone put on before. Hope to get these welded in this week after the frigid cold is done. I know there are colder places but a high of like 2 is freakin ridiculous.

Yes I hate cold weather and I even have a furnace in my barn lol. I'm gonna have to invest in some insulation next year though.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"

- My short term goals are to have the driveshaft shortened and installed by next week.
- The cab on in the next two weeks, this depends on if I want to patch the upper cab while laying on the back which sounds like the best option considering the stories ive heard from doing it over head. If I decide to flip it over then it may be 3 weeks or so before I can get the cab mounted.
- Get the gas lines finalized within the same timeframe.

Awesome progress.! Good to see your boy getting pleasure out your truck too. It looks great from where I'm sitting. Too bad about the cab corners.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"

I went out to check some measurements before taking the drive shaft to the drive train shop tomorrow. At a ride height around 5" the transmission is between 5* and 6 * down. The rear end is around 10* to 11* down. with the rough dimensions that Bennett68C10 gave me and my mock up dims I should have a new driveshaft by next week. I only wish the carrier bearing mount for the center brace was between the ladder bar perches. In order to use the two piece drive shaft I have I will have to weld a brace in.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"

I also took a few pictures of my new gas tank sitting in place as well as the start of my fuel lines. I am going to change the fuel line that runs through the frame to a 6AN connected hose rather than a barbed fitting with a hose clamp. A little too vital a connection inside a frame rail to rely on a hose clamp.

Well Keith that is a good question. I want this road worthy by late spring at the latest. If that means bolting on multi-colored panels to do so that is what I am going to do. All that crap just bolts on anyway. So I figure It can be torn down. I am in the same boat with you and Russ and in that I want to drive this thing as much as possible so I dont want an $8000 paint job. My initial thought was the black and bright red frame along with a bright red interior but a matte red exterior. I am still debating on if I want color matched bumpers or chrome. That one red blazer (i think it was N2Billets) that was on here before is pretty close to what I want.
