Aaaaaahhhhhhh........!! I like that.

Now I have been wondering about passenger side sun visors.

Were they optional extras, or standard fitment?

My truck only had one fitted, but I like the idea of a passenger side one.

Guess the search is on.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III

My truck spent almost all of it's life in Texas until a couple of months ago, so is totally solid and the chassis is like new.
This is how it looked underneath when I got it......

British weather and salt on the roads mean that it wouldn't have stayed that good for long now it's over here, so yesterday I had the whole thing steam cleaned and then Waxoyl protected, including inside the doors, insides of the wings (fenders to those over the pond) and all the cavities injected. It looks tidy but more importantly, it won't go rusty with a bit of luck!

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III

i got all 3 of todays mods in this one picture!

red devil head to remind me how quick things can go bad
wood steering wheel to match the oak bed
white fuzzy dice to match the wide white wall tires

also picked up 6 quarts of royal purple synthetic oil a K&N filter and a bottle of Slick 50 so I;m ready for the first oil change at 1000 miles

I am almost there with about 700 miles on the new GM crate motor now

only problem so far was the alternator took a crap at 500 miles so i took the truck in to Phil Smith Chevrolet in Lauderhill, FL and they replaced the alternator under warranty for me.

Pretty slick service if you ask me.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III

Long day yesterday.......

Partly because I have a miserable cough, splutter, farting chest cold..

Martin picked me and my 3 bike trailer up at 06.45 to go drop the trailer at his mums home 30 miles from here, also to pick up a Mazda MX5 door from her shed that is donating its glass to Nicola's MX5.
From there to Deptford to MOT his Ford Mondeo ST Estate AKA "The Kennel" used mainly as parts chaser and to transport his and Amanda's four large dogs everywhere.

MOT Passed.....

With that done by 9.45 we then went to the paint supplier to match and order my paint, get various other sundries. Lovely guy, Unfortunately, he only goes to work when it suits him, in our case after a call and text to let him know there was money to be made.
So while waiting we went walkabout around Deptford market and found some bargains to spend money on.

Got to see the paint guy just after 11.00 and managed to get a reasonable 2K paint match from the Chrysler colour charts.

Firestorm Red "Variant C" is what I went for.

Decided 6 liters should do as I plan to do inside the cab and all shut lines as well.

Along with thinners, hardener and some other consumables, it lightened my wallet by another £350.00

Well all mixed up and a good colour match[/QUOTE]

I was not surprised, but rather amazed at the mix of colours needed to get to my chosen colour.

I think it will be a touch more alive than what is on the truck currently.

After the paint shop, at which point I was feeling really ****e, we headed for a MacD lunch.

Then back to Martin's to swop cars and to get my large compressor into his work van along with all the treasures and back to my place by 3.30 to unload and gloat.

Martin headed home by 5.30 after he and Nicola had discussed all sorts of Christmas stuff I have no interest in.

My high build filler and a couple of panel stands (tressles) had arrived as well, so one not wrapped, for Martin for Christmas and one for me......

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III

I mocked up the tilt wheel, drivers seat and center console to see how they fit with the relocated Parking brake handle.

I removed the handle from under the dash and replaced it with C-30 type handle mounted in the high hump trans cover. I am going to move the parking brake handle back an inch so it clears the very bottom of the dash. I thought I had that covered the first time.

This high hump is my test unit. When I get the final holes where they need to be, I'll transfer to my good cover.

Alsmost time to go back out & reassemble my heater unit.

I like what you're doing with your interior. I'd go for that C30 handbrake in my truck but it would clobber my under dash A/C evaporator.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III

I am waiting on some parts for the 63 1/2 ton I am building so I worked on shortening the frame on a 63 GMC 3/4 ton I bought to flip and hopefully make a few bucks on one of these days.
Yesterday I pulled the bed off and today off came the front clip, doors, cab, and got her all measured up and marked off to slice and dice this coming weekend. Gonna shorten the frame and bed and put her back together as is.

Finally got some new shoes on the beast.. Goodyear Wrangler 235/75/15's, nice to have modern rubber. Also got the tailgate on. Bit of a pita, but it's on.... now if someone would please sell me a rear bumper.... Arrgh, can't believe it's so hard to find an original painted bumper. How many of these damn trucks did they make?? Oh well, I'm learning patience I guess.

I only have the step bumpers. Alot of guys are using the 67-72 bumpers becuase they hug the body line better.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part III

I really wanted a vacuum gauge for my truck but I changed out my instrument panel in the past to an aftermarket set up I decided to try something a little different. One of the retired car guys that I meet with for lunch on Wednesdays gave me a gauge from his Pontiac parts stash. I'm going to try to mount it in a older Sun tach housing and mount it under my dash on a bracket I use for my GPS. We'll see how it turns out.

That's a great looking dash. I just bought a set of classic instruments myself but in a different style and I also got the same panel. I have been trying to decide whether to paint the panel black as you did or try to brush the aluminum. Thanks for sharing yours. Now I've got a vision to help my decision. I like your idea on the vac gauge. Good work.
