I wish...That has been my inspiration for the last several years. I found a great deal on a 72 that I couldn't pass up, so unless I can find a factory 68 front end, I'll build it as a 72 and then build another one as a 68.

Re: Uncle Loyd's 72' C-10

I posted an update and am finally back at it, just because you asked ! 4X4 build has been fun but it's like adding a bit of additional length to the story problem you're trying to figure out. For example, my LS harness has a speed sensor that used to be wired into a transfer case and won't work with my NP 205....what to do?

I'm excited for all of us to be able to get back to work and hopefully come out in 2021 with awesome builds!

To my shame almost another year has zipped by with zero progress. Now Loyd is a recycle bin and a catch all....

The good news is that your powertrain is new enough that you still have a few years before it becomes as common as a gen 3/4 swap.

Don't sweat it though - you're probably doing more important things with your time and money. But I do cringe a little bit seeing it full of recycling.

I have to commend you for trying, but when they said “Milk, it does a body good”, they didn’t mean it would do your body work for you!!!

Sorry, I couldn’t resist a cheesy joke...

Srsly tho, we totally know how it goes with life getting busy, lots of other things take precedent and it’s not easy to find free time. Thanks for taking the time to update tho and let us know about Lloyd, you’ll get there and we’ll look forward to progress as it comes.

Thanks Potter, truth is I sometimes wish I'd left the original 350/350 combo in there. The main reason I went the route I did was for the added power and reliability. I went to the C10 Nationals yesterday and I think it's safe to say that anything BUT original is the norm these days. I'd estimate 85% of all the trucks had a modern drivetrain. If a guy wanted to stand out of the crowd now, a clean 350 would do it.

This is exactly why I am going with an era correct 396 BB.

Like Potter said, it is pretty cringe worthy, every time I walk past it I think to myself "I bet no one has ever seen a cab full of milk jugs!" I recently started raising goats and I had no idea how much milk they drink. The 12 kids put down 4 gallons a day for the first 2 months, now I've started the weaning process so we're down to 2 gallons a day, and this will continue for another month.

I wasn't looking for another hobby, Lord knows I have too many already. The goats are here to reduce my property tax bill. I'll be applying for an agricultural tax exemption. I estimate it'll save us 5k/yr.

Re: Uncle Loyd's 72' C-10

I went to the C10 Nationals yesterday to meet a couple of heavy hitters on the forum, and hopefully find the inspiration needed to get Loyd back under the knife and ultimately roadworthy. Here are some of the beauties that jazzed me.

I had the pleasure of putting a face to a name with these 2 guys. Chevyland (Eric) and davischevy (other Larry). Here we we're checking out an incredible 71 GMC Carryall.

I also got to meet 1971Stepside (Shannon) and see his work of art. He trailered his truck all the way from Springfield, Missouri. His truck is about as perfect as they come.

Man oh man are you making me jealous. First of all that's a way cooler show than anything we have up here. And second, there hasn't even been a show to speak of here since all this covid came about. I'd love to make it down there to a show some day. Thanks for sharing

Thank you for posting these! My goal is to haul all the way from Utah to be there next year...or one of these years! Looks like a fun event and the pictures alone help with the motivation.
I guess I'll fit right in with the modern drivetrain crowd as crazy as that seems with how hard these swaps actually are.

It was awesome to meet you at the show. I'm glad you took the time to introduce me to others and thanks for the kind words about my truck.

Hopefully you are motivated to get back to work on yours!

I say we BOTH make that happen in 2022! Let me sweeten the pot for ya man... After the show dinner and beers on me! I don't think it'd be possible for my truck to be painted by then but If I can drive it to the show, I'll call that a success.

Yeah man, I was hoping to see both you and your truck at the show. PM me and we'll make that happen too. It'll take me a few weeks before I'm ready though. I'll get all the crap cleaned out of it so we can at least look it over. In fact, my garage looks like a tornado camped out in it so the entire thing needs a thorough sorting. That'd definitely help me get back to work on Loyd if I could actually find tools when I need them.
If possible drive your truck when you come. It's been way too long since I've ridden in a classic Chevy, and I really want to see what it's like with an LS. I've been driving 5.3's and 6.0's for over a decade but never in a classic. I'd love to get a ride in yours!
