I believe AL law states the vehicle's VIN goes with the frame, not the body. The law may or may not be different where you is.

I tried to buy a complete '79 or 80 model crewcab from a local crusher and they said I could have anything but the motor and the frame. While I thought it over somebody else rolled through and bought the bed and all the sheetmetal.

yeah here in Ontario it's the cab that's considered the "vehicle" but glad to see that the program isn't killing everything Thanks for saving a CC fro the junk pile!

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

I will be happy to help whoever! The truck is an '89 dually with 42k total miles. It's been pretty much parked for 15 years only driven to keep the oil moving every few months! Do I need to completely sway beds or is the dually bed the same as the fleet side bed once I pull the flares off? I am ignorant to that... (I dunno/shrugs shoulders)

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

the bed sides are cut for tire clearance once you pull the dual fenders off youll see a big wheel wel opening the easiest fix is swap beds and then sell the dually bed as a whole

Sorry 345HP my first truck didn't have them and the are the only emblems that i'm putting on, I'm going for a flat black trimless look top to bottom the only thing that wont end up flat black is the brown seats i'm forced to use which came out of a crew cab conversion truck,,, As far as the vin goes the new cab will show the old vin # I know its probably not legal but i'm not caring,, the same junk yard that sold me the cab was trying to sell me the frame for another 200 but when i saw it they had cut a foot of the corner, i guess it was easier to cut the steering box off instead of unbolting it... Everything I have heard is that any car/truck that goes in the cash for clunkers has to be crushed, shadetree scrapers dont listen tho, In Az the title belongs to the frame, i'm taking the shadetree way out and changing the vin number. Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

I think it's awesome that you were able to rescue that cab from the crusher, but my understanding of the law was the vehicles were supposed to be destroyed. One local junkyard was going to sell me a rear bumper off one, and he said he wasn't even supposed to do that legally, they were supposed to be crushed intact. IDK, maybe he was wrong but he was in the business of dismantling cars, I dont think he would have let that much money slide through his hands if he didn't have to. His front lot was packed with cash for clunkers cars. I do know they were required to dump that stuff in the motors to kill them.
Just disgusting, all the good vehicles and good parts being destroyed because of some hare-brained scheme to jumpstart the economy by bailing out millionaire automakers. I remember reading that the cost to the taxpayer would be $23,000 per taxpayer. So if you bought a new sh**tbox you are paying $23,000 extra for it eventually, and those of us that didn't buy new are paying also.
Somewhere I saw a bumpersticker that said "I survived cash for clunkers". Think I need one for my truck.

Oh don't even get me started...a local dealer clunkered an 86/87 K30 RC/SRW Silverado, fully optioned out 454/SM-465 with low miles...why? Because the owner couldn't get it to start consistently. They towed it near the dealer, got it running, drove it onto the lot. The dealership had to tow it off the lot. It was a pristine dryland truck with no rust, nothing wrong with it other than the owner. It even had the dealer emblems on it from a dealer that is long since gone from Eastern WA.

THANK YOU for saving something from that IDIOT'S incentive program.

Yea I got lucky with the cab, the frame tranny and transfer case are still there, the frame got cut right before the steering box, but the rest is up for grabs $650 and its mine, th400/np205/D70hd, just dont have the money to spend

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

Ok I just watched Gearz and they talked about the Cash 4 Clunker program,, only the motor and trans aren't allowed to be sold everything else is up for grabs if the scrapyard it went to was willing to pull the parts,, something like 80% of all cars were crushed due to lake of room in junkyards,,, just stupid.
