Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Unboxed all the Vintage Air stuff in the garage, put it in the car, and took it in smaller boxes to the shop.

Put in the new air-battery box. Played around to try and fit the new radiator. It's gonna take some cutting on the core.

That battery box fit was a b%&ch. Partly, I guess, foreign part jigs...And partly, squeezing it up into the spot that the new inner fender occupies.

Repainted the spots that had paint on them that made me mad.

I'll bet if you put a water trap in between the compresser and tank, you'll really like it. I had an S10, and was rebuilding a valve every couple of weeks, after the water trap, no stuck valves until I sold the truck.

I bought the oil to make oil change but I couldn't find the old cartridge oil filter, I think I should make the conversion to new type

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

RossRinSD-- Oh I agree completey, I am currently just running schrader valves inside the cab with a fill line and air chuck.

I plan on upgrading the air tank, getting a water trap/filter and going to paddle valves/gauges over the winter... I had hoped that the little 100C would last til winter, but oh well, new toys are fun too.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

This is what we did yesterday, Sunday, but not a lot.

My son brought his ski/fishing boat out and put it in one of my carports. While he was out here we shot the breeze quite a bit about what we want to do with my two trucks.

I have finally come to the reality that I will never finish both of them so we are going to take the good parts off the two of them and make a good one. I have been resisting tearing the '71 lwb stepper, but it is worth more to me in parts than I could sell it for.

Our goal is to put together a '67 swb stepper with power steering, power disc brakes, a 454 and 400 transmission. We hope to make it a nice driver, but the engine will not be modified other than a mild cam and headers.

I guess only time will tell out it turns out. Hopefully this will not take more than 6 months. It is good to have a goal, but only time will tell how things turn out.

Yesterday we got it started and onto a trailer and moved to my son's garage. It took a while to get the old 6 banger starter, I think the float was stuck in the carb. The 6 banger will be going in my son's '72 Malibu.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Pulled my 3/4 ton out and gave it a bath. Took it for a drive. It's a blast to drive my old friend. When the winter hits I will start the body work and get it painted and all the trim put back on.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

We took the bed off of this truck and I sold it to a teenage friend of mine who wants to put it on his '71 lwb C-10. He said his fleet-side was swiss cheese and he liked the '67 lwb stepper bed.

This truck is the one we are taking apart to use some of the good parts on the '67 swb stepper build.

I put the battery charger on this truck so I can start it and move it around. It has the 454, doors, running gear and misc stuff we are going to use in the '67 we are fixin to get ready to build.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I fixed an air leak on my rear airbags. to fix it I had to pull the bags off the truck because there was no way to access the fittings. Then I replaced all the tubing, fittings, etc. with 3/8" compression fittings and line. It's still just a manual fill setup with schrader valves, but now at least it not leaking anymore.

Mocking up the radiator and Vintage Air evaporator and drier. And otherwise playing around with the front clip and front bumper.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Got the Vintage Air condenser, drier, and misc lines set up. Locked 'em down except for the oiled o-rings. Gonna wait on those until I'm ready to fire up the A/C.

Pretty much finished re-habbing the front bumper that was half in the dirt for at least eight years. Came out good enough for a Rat. At least for me.

The radiator has been set up and is ready to go in. I just had to paint the top hold-down thingies. (How's that for knowing the proper terminology?)

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Discovered my timing was last set with the vacuum advance still connected - 12* base advance makes the truck run so much better than 0* base

Other than that, drove it to work and filled it with crushed cement

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I got my damn fuel tank in. The filler is plumbed and the sending unit is wired up.

I still have to finish routing the fuel supply line up along the frame rail and get it attached. And, I still have to finish routing the vent. Man, I'm not sure how that is going to work...

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I went to my son's, the mechanic, house late today and had the evening meal with them, we call it supper here.

We talked more about what my vision is for the truck we are going to start building, it is not a restoration because it will be made up of about 5 or 6 different year trucks, I forget exactly how many.

All I know for sure it will be a 67 swb stepper on a 69 frame with 71 suspension/running gear with a 74 454 and 400 auto.

Sunday we plan on taking the front clip off and removing the 250 L6 and SM420 transmission, also the seats if we have time.

We looked over the cab and it is in worse shape than we thought so it will be a challenge to get all the rust areas repaired or replaced. The swb stepper bed is ready to be wet sanded and painted, I bought it that way a few years ago.

We talked a little about paint, but that is down the road a piece, it will probably be next spring before we paint it. Hopefully it will be ready for the car show in Oran, Missouri in early June.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I block sanded the first coat of primer on my cab today. Found a bunch of low spots I didn't get filled before I sprayed the first coat of primer. Filled the low spots with filler, going to spray another coat of primer tomorrow. Then I get to sand that coat of primer...WHEN WILL THE SANDING STOP????
