Re: Project Vitamin C-10
I would think the sanding sealer would stop the color from absorbing into the wood. Maybe after you stain it.

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
if you want the wood to look a little richer. I would give it a thinned down coat of boiled linseed oil wipe it dry and I mean dry and give it a wipe every couple of hours as there will be some bleeding back from the grain. coat it the next day with polyurethane and follow up with a few more coats. prepare to sand it and recoat every couple of years if left in the weather
straight polyurethane will leave the wood looking lighter in colour . no sealer needed. sanding sealer just has more stearates(easier to sand) in it and makes the finish softer . less crap in the finisher makes it harder. gloss is harder than satin(less inhibitors) ron oxalic acid more than likely would have removed those stains |

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
I used helmsman (not sure on spelling) for all the clear finishes I have done on our salt water tank stands. So far everything has held up great (oldest is 3years now).
I also read somewhere to put a slight radius on the boards where the notch is cut out for the metal strips. They said it helps keep the clear coat from cracking and peeling on the hard edge. |

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
The bed wood looks to have come out quite nicely.
I vote for a stain on the wood. While orange will be unique for sure, I think it may just be too much orange. Just my .02, either way I'm sure you'll make it look great. |

I'm tired of talking about the bed. On to something different.
I really like the looks of the GMC hood. I think I will keep an eye out.

SCORE I remembered about a year ago when I went to look at a truck that was for sale, he had a GMC hood, that was extra, he had shipped in from Fresno off of Ebay. I think he wanted 400 for it at the time. I saw it again on CL not too long ago. I wanted to call him but I thought the price was still too high. I couldn't find the ad last night, but I remember I took pics of his truck and one of the pics had the far sale sign in the window. I called him this morning and he still had it. He told me he would take 200 on the phone. All said and done I got it for 160. It has some minor dents and some holes that need to be welded up. There is only surface rust.

Running a clear lense with an orange bulb will be the plan. I smoked out the tail lights of my turbo Miata and it looks awesome and still lite up red.

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
I got some bulbs off ebay that look chrome. So when the light is off you can't see the bulb at all and there is no orange cast to the lens. But it blinks orange and doesn't cut down on the light.

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
Now I have another seam to weld up on a hood. The hood is in such good shape I don't want to weld it up. To go with my vision it needs to be.

Back on to the bed. Trying to get the wood trimmed out for the filler neck. I'm almost there. Remembering the old adage "measure twice cut once". Sorry for the cell phone pic.

I had the pleasure to meet another board member today. Enick72 drove his 65 truck up to my place, we had a good chat about trucks. I enoyed the visit. I've been trying to find a loover of some sort to graft into my fenders. I might have found them. I was putting a front end on a '09 Taurus. Since I replaced one of the fenders I just need the other side. Shouldn't be too long before we get another since I work at ford. Just not sure if it would look good or not. I need some input please.

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
I think adding a louver of any sort would take away from cleaning up the truck. If it was me, I would try harder to resist the urge.
Also, what about using a bonding adhesive like 8115 in the hood seam vs. welding it?

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
At SEMA I was talking to Michael from Sir Michaels. I found out that he lives only a couple of miles from me in Oak Hills. He moved the whole Sir Michaels business to his house. He said they are coming out with stick on louvers that look real. I'll have to see them. He also does real louvers at his house. How convenient
Here's his web site. One of the roll pan pictures that flashes on is my sons Silver S-10. http://www.sirmichaels.com/user_page...html?page=Home

While 8115 is a great product, I don't feel comfortable using it in that way. I have no proof it wouldn't work, just a gut feeling. I think about the expansion difference between metal and 8115. I think it could show up in the paint eventually. Quote:
I've mentioned it before about how I want to do my seats. Orange and black houndstooth inset with Black wrap. I found it by the yard here

Re: Project Vitamin C-10
What other color will you put with the hounds tooth?
Here's another supplier I talked to at SEMA. They had some cool stuff. I wish I could remember there name. If I remember I'll let you know.
