Re: Project "Rock-a-Billy".....Saga Continues.....

I picked up a true 71 SS Nova about a year or so ago....its stored away right now in my folks garage (my warehouse) untill I'm ready to tear into it.

I've always likes Novas...and I pickled one up because my Father-n-law had this race motor sitting around that we pulled out of the '57 wagon (wife's car..now sports a ZZ4)

So I looked everywhere for a 66-67 but could not find one...or rust buckets/baskets were WAY overpriced....

So I found this 71 SS on Craiglist, and ended up trading the guy for a Garage Door installed.

Now that I have it, I like the 68-72's.

It actually has a stronger body/chassis than the older ones.

I'll shoot you some pics soon...not much to see right now....

Don't even know if I'll ever get to all my projects....I keep changing my mind as to what to build next !!!

[QUOTE=johnnyzoom;2425314]Wow, lots of hard quality work there, but especially the engine. I'm sure I'll refer to your post in the future for my truck. Thanks for taking the time to post all this and include pictures.

Thanks.....and Your welcome !!

As a matter of fact, I just ordered some aluminum pulleys from Summit and a correct March alternator mounting system. Basically, it's just a rear bracket to compensate for the 'holeless' 202 heads. The one I made, is like a hair off. To the eye it looks perfect, but at high RPMs the belt keeps flying off. So hopefully, this does the trick.

I while back, I also received my alum. radiator from Summit.....didn't need it, just wanted it.

From Classic, I ordered a glove box, rear-view, dome light, and a door weather strip kit....the doors/glass rattle for days...I'm tired of it.

Just need some time now.

I think my next major step will be a rear fuel tank and 5-lug axle-shafts and discs.

Heated springs in the front from the previous owner !!! The rear springs are some stiff import springs that I had laying around..not sure what they are out of.

As you can see from the lower a-arms...the suspension is pretty much maxed...it still aligned to within spec..not perfect, but steers straight....

Like I mentioned before, I have this certain knowledge of suspensions ()...just no time for my own projects.

Just like the old saying goes "the Plumbers pipes leak....the roofers house needs a new roof...etc,etc,etc.

They weren't too pricey...they are the 'Summit' brand pulleys

Re: Project "Rock-a-Billy".....Saga Continues.....

Thanks Paul...as I mentioned before...it is all the props, compliments, and advise that keep myself (and everyone else here) going.

I run a custom shop...but tend to sometimes slack a little (too much on plate)...but.... when you post pics/progress reports, the input and responces you get, help keep you going.

As far as the Chief....what is next is just the ALum Radiator for know.

I have door glass seals, glove box, rear view, dome light. etc. Just small things for now.

I am almost finished with my customers '67 c-20 Chassis....then comes the 69 Vette...NO time for my stuff....

I guess the hood will have to go on soon........when we actually get some rain........Gonna have to shoot that underside with the same fenderwell paint as well.

Hopefully next year it will have the "FAST" bags...to promote some of my work.

Later

It seems to be coming along. I noticed you said you were going to get an aluminum radiator. I just notice the radiator in your truck is the size they use for the 194ci 6cly engine. That thing is tiny..

I know man...it is tiny. But you know what, surprizingly it does not get hot at all....It really surprises alot of people.

I'm going with an aluminum just for a nicer look. Most people like the look of it hanging out there like that.

I thnk it would run hotter if the hood was one, thats probably why.

Anyway, the rad is next.
