Re: 56 Chev Garage build
Had some scrape steel decided to make some motor mounts the yellow steel is 1/4 plate the supports are 3/16 and tube is 7/8 od. I made the same mounts that I used on the 56 truck and built some for my neighbor he is been running it for almost 12 years now.

Re: 56 Chev Garage build
Now the welding starts made the mounts a bit long for future trimming

Re: 56 Chev Garage build
Moved the last rear cross member back to get a better fuel tank selection option and repainted the frame with rustoleum hammer black paint. I like this stuff after it cures in this hot sun in Arizona it like powder coating. The frame still needs paint touch up on opposite side waiting for it to dry top side then I will flip it over.

Re: 56 Chev Garage build
Rudy, frame looks great! Does the hammer finish still look hammered after applying it with a brush? or did you spray it?
Nice job!

Re: 56 Chev Garage build
The first time I painted it I used a small foam roller laid pretty good, after I welded the cross member in I used cheapo brushes from home depot really didn't see a difference. If you cant decide use the small roller doesn't leave brush bristle in paint. I used two quarts first time this time I only use one quart and it still has the hammer look to it. What I like it is cheap on the wallet and I can always touch it up unlike powder coating.

Re: 56 Chev Garage build
Rudy, all,
Here's a couple photos of what I've done with Rustoleum Hammer finish paint. I opened up the entire back of my little 18x18 garage and installed a structural steel frame in place of the back wall. The wide flange beam I found on Craigslist and was an oddball forest green but badly scratched up. I did NOTHING, nada, zilch, zero in prep. I rolled it on with a .79 cent foam roller from Home Cheapo. I messed up because you're supposed to recoat (if you're going to) within I think two or four hours. I forgot and the label says if you don't do it in that time to wait like 7 days or something. So I waited. This stuff is HARD when it's cured. Two coats like I did it is ridiculously hard and uniform. Been on there 4-5 years now and has been bullet proof. Closeup of the texture: Obviously that is the silver hammer finish. Since I had good luck with it I decided to try the black but in their spray can. I don't think it's truly black; it's more like dark gray to me. I found a little stool standing out with someone's trash. I did a relatively quick buzz with my palm sander and later put an eBay old fashioned gasoline sticker on it. This was going to be in my garage but my wife actually liked it! And it's in our living room, God knows why but it is. Before (Yes, very crappy looking): After:

Re: 56 Chev Garage build
Dan the frame was already painted over a year and a half, I just repainted it cause I welded the mustang 2 cross member. It has been outdoors and held up real good and matched good way cheaper than powder coating.

Re: 56 Chev Garage build
Mated cab to frame and installed the rear end. I slide the frame from the bottom up not to bad it worked.

Re: 56 Chev Garage build
Looks good Rudy - you keeping the vents operational? or did you cut all that junk out? if you need some side panels and vent covers I have a complete set thats not in too bad a condition.
