Moving the trailing arm cross member was not to hard. I have an Early Classic CM, the frame had a extra hole forward 1 11/16 so I moved the CM to that hole and drilled the rest, shortened the drive line.

Did you do the driveline or did you have it done? If you had them done who did you have do it? I'm asking because I'm at the point of doing mine right now and looking for a good local source, if possible.

I had SixStates do it the first time I gave them a drive line out of a 78 which they shortened and installed a new yoke for the 12 bolt $165 I think. These time they just shortened it 1 3/4" and repainted $60. They did a great job.

It's been a few months since my last post. We have had a lot of fun this summer showing and cruising around in the truck. But the rains are coming and it's time to put her away for the winter. Last winter I did a remodel on her. I can't leave well enough alone, and I'm going to do it again.

Items to be remodeled:

1. Build new bed wood (I'm going to use birds eye or curly maple this time)
2. Change rear drums to discs
3. Machine a custom ash tray pull out of SS
4. Install the heater hoses (Try to come up with a custom way)

That should be enough for this winter

I can't wait to see it with birds eye maple. I think it's one of the most beautiful beds ever as it is now, though. Not saying you shouldn't do it, just saying that you have amazing craftsmanship.

I did the bed wood at a local High School winter wood shop night class that a friend teaches. Last year I learned a lot, this time I will do a lamination with 1"x1/8 SS inlayed cross way on the bottom for more support that should keep the wood stable.

I thought I would add a few things to keep this thread alive. We all know the trucks are never done.
The exhaust which is 18" Magnaflow 3" mufflers had a raspy glasspack sound I don't like it so I added a 3" crossover. That really helped it took the raspy sound out.

The next problem I had is the fuel gauge didn't read accurate. The sending unit was grounded to the cross member my main ground it to the right frame rail and the cab. The problem was the cross members is not a good ground in old rigs. Put a new ground to the right frame rail problem solved.

Next problem I would have a problem starting the truck if she sat for two to three weeks. The mechanical fuel pump couldn't bring the fuel up fast enough. So I replaced it with a Carter electric pump. It works great and I can't hear the pump running.

That cross over pipe looks pretty healthy.

Looks good Keith, how do you keep it so clean underneath? Looking forward to the new bed wood, although the existing bed wood is beautiful. Maybe you need another project.

Thanks she only sees good weather drives and having a lift makes it easier to keep her bottom clean.
How's your truck working out any upgrades.

No upgrades really, but have been driving it quite a bit, and have ran a few tanks of fuel through it. We have had the mildest winter ever up here. As for yours, that is the cleanest farm truck I have ever seen. Don't you have any dirt on your farm? Have you had any thoughts about a second project? Looks to me like your truck is pretty much done and you keep working on it. Maybe a 47-54 five window would be cool. Just thinking out loud.

I would like to do a 42-46 chevy truck. I'm doing some research on BMW M5
engines. There a straight 6 engine that put out some good power. A friend of mine is going to bring his over so I can check it out.
I think that m5 engine with a 6 speed add a turbo in a old truck would be different.

Looks good Keith! Hoping to drive my 64 GMC up to Troutdale this Summer, and may try and stop in Portland as well. I'll let ya know. Truck is looking great! I'm gonna have to invest in a lift so I can polish the frame on my 66 when it's done. lol

Mixing German engineering with American engineering? Hmmm. That would be different. A transplant like that might give the truck a rash and try to reject it. Not sure what the patriots down there would have to say about that either. They lost a couple wars you know.
