Re: Project Reno - 72 cheyenne rebuild
Nice Chris I am old school too when talking about wheels and tires. They look good. I am putting 15/10 Alcoa's on 33/12.50.
I can't wait to get off work to see your whole build. My work computer won't let me see the photos that are linked to a thread Err!!!

Re: Project Reno - 72 cheyenne rebuild
This truck is trying to kill me! Lol
I swapped out the stock wheel studs for longer studs that would have worked, but the knurl wasn't grabbing both the hub and disc. After some research, found out a gigantic gm wheel stud was the solution. Once I got the wheel studs figured out with the new wheels, some of the new lug nuts were cross threading on the new wheel studs despite some of them going on easily by hand. I ended up trashing about 6 lug nuts and their studs trying to get them cleaned up and working. So I got a die to clean up all the 9/16 18 wheel studs, Literally about 75 percent of them were bad cuts. After running the die on them, I was back in business. Then realized the new studs are so long that I run out of thread with the wheels on. Luckily only about 1/4" So, ordered up some 1/2" wheel spacers to make sure and tomorrow hope to finish this wheel blues. I was really hoping to just bolt the new wheels on. I should have known better after all the trials and tribulations, but I will get done eventually. The correct wheel studs for aluminum wheels on the 8 lug full float axles is Dorman #

Re: Project Reno - 72 cheyenne rebuild
With the rear disk break kits you have to run a longer stud to get them to work. I lucked out the kit was mostly done when I bought mine used from a guy in Holister.

Glad you are getting it worked out. BTW, I guess I hadn't mentioned but I really like your wheel and tire combo - very rugged looking!

Re: Project Reno - 72 cheyenne rebuild
Mo Progress, well, sold the old tires and wheels and the bench seat to finance the windows. The rear window went in with no issue.
I found a guy that has been doing windows for a long time and he had indeed done one of these trucks with trim. We set out to install it, but as is usually the case, these windows with trim don't give up easily. We needed a third set of hands. So we tried again a few days later with three of us and it went in with some care and patience. I am stoked. So now I need to re-bleed the brakes, clutch and a few wiring items I have neglected. Next up...exhaust... then the interior then she's ready for inspection.

Also, there are two different kinds of trim. Deep channel and shallow channel. If you can re-use your old trim that is best. The aftermarket stuff is a lighter weight stainless and does not fit as well as original. Good luck when the time comes.

Re: Project Reno - 72 cheyenne rebuild
I was able to get a couple things squared away today. I made a little box for my wiper delay unit so it wouldn't be just wire tied under the dash.
I coated it with plasticote so it will be somewhat isolated from other wires behind instrument panel. It tucked up nicely under the dash. I also was not entirely sure about installing my new 3 point seat belts. The original holes were not going to work and i didn't want to butcher my floor with a slew of new holes. After a little research I purchased a set of anchor plates for the floor connection. Juliano's had them. I then made some small extension plates out of 3/16 steel so I could attach the other end of the belt to the retractor. After installing the seats they worked perfectly. I did order some plastic covers for the inner portion of the belts so they will sit just above the console with the seats in place. Now I just need to rent a torch and bend my shifter so i can finish the interior. More to come.

Re: Project Reno - 72 cheyenne rebuild
Seat belts came from LMC Truck. Floor brackets came from "Seat Belt Store" I would have just ordered everything from the seat belt store had I known about them earlier. Nice products.

Re: Project Reno - 72 cheyenne rebuild
Today I purchased one of those small Map/Oxy torches from Lowes. I was hoping it would give me just enough heat to bend the shifter. Well, it was exactly that...just enough heat.
I really only needed two bends. The goal is to emulate the chrysler pistol grip shifters. After a few adjustments and bending slightly toward the drivers seat, It ended up pretty good I think. Now that the shifter obstacle has been removed, the interior can be finished. Yaaaahooooo!

Killer work on the shifter mod! looks great. I never heard of the oxy-map mix. I have the map only, but I need to check into the oxy.

Insulation down carpet down tomorrow, I need to cut some plywood for the panel behind the seats. I also need to create a bracket for the Stereo amp which is going to be mounted under the passengers seat.
