Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
It does you virtually no good i suppose, but i am a big advocate for the flowmaster 50 series. They are like the in between of the 40 and 70. Mellow rumble, and plenty loud at wot. Here is a couple videos of my truck that i love the sound of. Its a 5.3 with 2.5" Y pipe into 3" magnaflow "high flow" cat and a 3"in dual 2.5" out flow master 50.

Ya, with a 5.3 it does no good. It doesn't sound as bad as most LS motors with the Flowmaster though!

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
I had a 69 camaro a few years back with a 468 big block with all kinds of goodies in an out. I had 3" magnaflow exhaust. it was the first time Iv used magnaflow. OMG that car had the most "awesomeness" sound Iv have yet to hear in a street car. at idle it just made your chest thump, not to loud, but in a good way. It announced something bad ass is coming. After that it will always be Magnaflow. sorry no audio and I also didnt use any cats. hope that helps

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
Alright, so we made the decision and we will see how this turns out...
Magnaflow 59956 Metallic Substrate Spun cats. These are the highest flowing ate Magnaflow make but they also run very hot so they work very well. I chose metallic over ceramic simply because the higher EGTs I'll see while towing are going to break down the ceramic substrate a lot easier than metallic. Magnaflow 12226 14" case mufflers (offset in/center out) H-Pipe 3" Stainless Turndown tips, I can't really explain how they will look other that the turndowns will be tucked and barely visible between the rear tire and rear bumper on each side of the truck. That crew cab looks amazing! Canīt wait to see pictures of it painted! How does the brown look? I thought about a two tone with the same brown...

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
Okay, I totally spaced in updating this thread for the last two months! Here is the progress...
------------ Nothing in the pretty department but I did get the Doug's Tri-Y's installed and the whole exhaust system completed... A few weeks ago, I ended up finding a set of 90-92 Gen V cast valve covers, got them all cleaned up, re-coated, sanded out the brushed finish fins and got them all installed with ARP black hex head bolts. Don't mind the ugly old badges, they were just in the photos so I could show my decal guy. I have Vince over at Motor City Vinyl doing up some trick custom badges... To make the Gen V covers fit a Mark IV head, you do have to modify the oil splash guard at both front and rear ends of the valve covers. Simply grind them down smooth and flush to the first low side bolt location and you are good to go! Everything I had read prior said we had to grind everything smooth and convert them to flat gaskets, but I prefer the o-ring type gasket honestly! Since I am local to Summit Racing, I decided to check some various aftermarket casting heads out to see if the difference in factory Mark IV castings was the same in the clearance of the oil splash guard and here is what I found... ALL brodix heads have clearance issues. Most Edelbrock heads actually work perfectly with the Gen V covers, including the 60499. The one AFR head in stock cleared the oil splash guard. Trick Flow heads were hit and miss. ----------- Went out today scouting for mountain biking trail networks in the hills around my house today...I took the hard line through a few obstacles! I think I'm going to make some sway bar disconnects to get some more movement out of the front end...but in all honesty, it's going to be a pavement prowler 99.3% of the time! Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
Here is a quick clip of the exhaust all done, I think it turned out just right! The raspy glass pack sound when I gave it some throttle only happens when its not under load...driving around it never does that!

Damn! That sounds so good! Nice mellow rumble! As i have gotten older i have started to dislike loud exhaust systems...

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
Nothing at all, it's winter and I haven't really done anything to the truck other than washing it yesterday.
And I quit my high stress (but great paying) job recently so I could go back and finish my degree...so I have a feeling I am going to be putting the brakes on the restoration for a couple years and driving the truck as is for the time being, unless I decide to sell it and move on to other things! Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
Yaaaaa, I didn't want to get in trouble for posting anything but I'm just trying to see what I can get for the truck. My life has undergone some big changes recently and I won't be able to finish the truck for a long time. If I can get what I want for it them I'll part ways with it...I'm not banking on it honestly.

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
I knew someone would catch the eBay listing via Google Alerts with the adapter part number listed in the description...hahaha! Sorry guys, I'm glad you all understand though...
I guess part of me just wasn't fulfilled by this project like I thought I would be after losing the first one the way I did... Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
Hate to see it on the chopping block, but life happens. Your interior colors will work well with red and black exterior colors as well as the white you'd planned so it should move. You've already done all the hard work with great attention to detail. Hope you get what you want.

Re: Project Evil Tow Rig - '87 CC SRW Conversion
I have to say, it MAY be on the block as it totally depends on whether the potential buyers are blowing smoke or have the money to actually pay for the truck. If I don't get what I want, I'll just keep it and let it be as-is until I can finish it. It's not a dire situation and I'm not forced to sell it by any means!
Thank you for the kind words though! Posted via Mobile Device

Well, she is off the chopping block...I'll just keep plugging along as I get the chance and slowly this restoration will hopefully continue.
