9teen69,

If you want those hubcaps to really "pop", get a non abrasive cleanser (Barkeeprs's Friend or Bon Ami) and a soft bristle tooth brush. Wet the brush and sprinkle a little bit on the very top of the center cap and start gently working at the grooves in the that spiral area around the Chevy emblem. Wet that area, too. Rinse w/water...you'll be amazed at how good they look.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I finally cleaned out the rest of my truck parts from my parents' garage. My grill is now resting in my living room, where it will sit out the winter.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Unfurled RAT to make room in the driveway for a delivery of firewood.

I'm pretty happy. Christmas spirit and all.
I just never seem to get tired of looking at RAT.

Whether putting it to work, or for a run to the store or for coffee,
driving is nice, too.

But I get such a kick outta just looking at the result of five years
worth of work that turned out, I think, just the way I like it.

Well, some fatter sidewalls....Yeah, a 383 would be cool....
Nice to have a six speed....maybe some side trim.....Aieeee!!!!!

Time to put the cover back on.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

This is the result of about 60 hours of work. 1970 GMC Sierra Grande. Removed every piece of trim (except the upper bed), emblem, badge, door handles and door locks. Wet sanded it all w/2000 grit and then used Wizard buffing compound. I redid some of the lower trim w/new woodgrain tape and was able to straighten out the rest, although have a mountain of nice replacement trim. Removed inner fender wells, sanded and painted. Thought it important that what came on the truck stayed on the truck, despite it being much less time consuming to simply go get a better peice of trim. That's the original paint.

Haha, Thanks! I'm already adding up all the goodies. Should be a fun winter project. I found it at a local exhaust shop that I use. They went and bought it from Tennessee, so I came on top only having to go 8 miles for it, haha. Been looking for one for a while.

Nice buy. It looks pretty original with everything still there ( like A/C stuff ) so you don't have to undo someones half finished dream truck.

Yep, seems to be all original. I was looking for something that I knew had everything there, so it didn't leave scratching my head trying to get it back together.

Played with my 4x4 for a bit. Changed the oil and filter since I power washed the motor a few weeks ago and may have gotten some water in the engine.
Dumped 5 gal. Of fresh petrol in the replacement tank.

And i aIso pulled the thermastat out to be sure it got some antifreeze circulation before/IF WE GET freezing TEMP THIS WINTER.

Also showed my lil' guy some of the controls on his truck.
He certainly got the horn down pat lol.
