Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I finished removing the suspension and rear end from the frame and did some more cleaning up of the frame rails....getting closer to paint time for the rear frame rails.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Pulled my battery tray, stripped off the battery corrosion and painted it with epoxy primer followed by battery terminal protective coating. Also installed an absorbent battery mat in the bottom of the tray. We’ll see if that makes any difference. I’m sure tired of needing to do it over every few months.

I scored BIG TIME!! Nosing around the local self serve wrecking yard and found a very nice rust free drivers door for my 64 truck. There's not even a speaker hole cut in it. Got it out the gate for $51.53 including tax and a $3.00 core charge. Unfortunately the passenger door was smashed in at the door handle or I would have bought it too.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Finally got my drive shaft shortened, and installed it behind my t5. What a difference. It runs real good.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I tried to adjust the carb on my v6 305 but nothing it still bogs down when I press the gas pedal and the radiator was leaking from the top where the little hose goes but It was just idling. Sometimes I just want to sell it and have a ride that I can drive.

Andyboy....The OE Stromburg carb on your 305 is affectionately known as the "Petroleum Brake" for a reason.
You might try putting a Holley 500 on it and go from there.
She won't be go like a funny car, but you'll sure enjoy the difference.
Don't sell her on account of the OE carb.....That was just a mean trick from the engineers at GMC..........At least that's what I'm thinkin'.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I installed the rechromed grill and emblems, new seat, petronix ignition. I then drove it about 50 miles around town and my Kids REALLY liked it. Though I still ahve to figure out how to get the crop out of the vent boxes

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

Installed 3 inch lowering springs in the rear of the Suburban. Front was lowered previously, but the rear was left stock.
BEFORE:

AFTER:

Definitely lowered the rear, maybe not the 3 inches, but makes her more balanced now. Can't believe that's the best before picture I have . .

Shoot, I'm sure partial to the early GMC's.
That looks great.
As far as the carp in the vent boxes.....mine loosened up (and went up up my wifes skirt) at around 70 mph.
That happened shortly after I R & R'd the vent doors for new gaskets and paint.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I ordered the material fro SMC in Portland (though I have been trying to get some closer) and had a upolstery shop copy the pattern from the stock seat using boat soft material same pattern and color as the OEm but softer. The orig seat was in good/ great shape except the foam was gone. I knew if I repadded the seat the fabric would tear in 3 months and I would have to start over so I just bit the bullet and did it now.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?

I pulled my hood and started cleaning 46 years of crud an grime off ot the underside getting it ready to paint. I plan on running the turn signal wires under the inner structure to clean up the looks a little bit.

Spent all day today blocking 85% of the truck today. Maybe ready for paint by the weekend!
