On most vehicles im getting tired of seeing flat black and red wheels but I thought it works on the dually. If you need some different pictures for a rendering let me know.

imo flat black is not a paint scheme. Here's my take on this phenomenom: in the old days, an unfinished project might be black primer, and eventually people started bringing their unfinished stuff out on the road, then to cruise nights and eventually to shows. Initially, it was a tiny bit cool that someone would dare to bring it out before it was done, but since then it has come full circle to where people do their entire build with the intention of painting it flat black and leaving it with the unfinished look.
Obviously my (negative) opinion of rat rod flat black is just one opinion, and since so many gearheads like it, there must be something appealing about it to many. But I just wanted to say I don't get it, I don't like it, and most of all it has been overdone these last few years. Can't we move on and complete our vehicles by painting them? WHy the need to look unfinished?
Let's leave the flat black to the true rat rods, homemade hotrods that don't have enough smooth sheet metal to justify a paint job. It just looks silly to me when a project that obviously isn't on a low budget tries to look like it is. Even worse is an unfinished primer flat black paintjob with fancy pinstriping or flames over it. ?? is it just me??

some people do it for the look. however, more people do it because they ARE on a budget and they would rather spend the 3000+ it takes to cover a big truck in good paint on; wheels, tires, suspension, interior and other stuff. it comes down to budget. 90% of the people you ask would take a free paint job in a heart beat and leave "hot rod" black in the dust.

me personally, ill drive around in grey primer and peeling paint until that paint job comes along. 40$ in rattle can? too much money

Deteoit dan and camshaftgsxr. I agree with both of you. Camshaft you took the words right out of my mouth. Like I said flat black is played out, bit like camshaft said I picked the truck up and this is how it came. In a perfect world everyone would have a nice paint job, but like many others including me money tends to get spent on drivetrain/suspension etc etc. the money sometimes just isnt there for a nice paint job. So why not be able to atleast take your truck out and enjoy it?

i also agree with both of you, it is played out to do that as a finished product, but i am only 25, with kids and a very tight budget, so it will be flat black for some time until i can get the money to get the materials to paint it. i like the flat black because if i decide to change doors or a hood or tailgate, it doesnt take much time effort or money to get it back to one color. As of right now, my front clip and tailgate are green, front doors are black, back doors are white and bed is flat black. Wont take very much money to get it all one color as i get the body work done. and as a side note, it you leave it in flat black, when you get ready to paint it, its alot easier to see the small dents when blocking it out, the flat is just a guide coat.

the one problem i'm seeing is that most people dont do the body work anywhere close to right when doing flats...THEN they use rustoleum industrial enamels or spray bombs to do it black. If you take the time to do the body and prep RIGHT, then sure you can use the black as a base. Most don't and you can make a helluva mess trying to spray modern urethanes over crappy enamel air dry paint. I know EXACTLY what you're talking about as MY 70 Halfton Shortbed is getting a semi gloss black urethane sprayed on it soon. My body has many hidden land mines and ****ty repairs and more than one or two repaints, so i'm gonna halfast it for now, but when i decide on the finish its gonna get stripped to bare metal and done right.
Hopefully it looks decent enough for a few seasons...

I didnt mean to say its unacceptable for a work in progress, and by all means, if it's runnin', then drive it! I just meant that it got so popular as a "color" that too many people built big dollar trucks and cars without ever intending to spray color on it. Which is made even more noticeable when theres nice pinstripes or flames on it.
And "played out" is a perfect way to describe it. When you can't go two minutes without seeing a picture of another flat black spray bomb job, then it's gotten too much. Hopefully it goes it's way like the earth tones and bizarre colors of the 70s, or the crazy multi-stripe jobs of the late 70s early 80s. Or how about late 80s early 90s, when all the 4x4s had hot pink shock boots with matching windshield wipers and two dozen KC lights mounted on a triple double rollbar?
I'm just gripin' here, don't pay me too much attention.

And don't get me started on brushed aluminum finish plastic gas door covers that stick on to make it look like you have a custom racing gas door. I better never see a stick on gas door cover on a flat black truck...

dude, me and you are about the same, i do my share of griping, but overall, i figure to each his own. but being a child of the 80s, and loving monster trucks as a kid, i really dig the 2 dozen kc lights, just not the hot pink stuff.

Me too ... I'd also like to know how it stretched out to 28 feet. My 20" haulmark seems to be the same size every time I tow it. Is it something in the towpig??

It's a 88 1 ton chevy with a built marine 6.5 turbo diesel pushing just under 400hp before it blew up, th400 ,np205, 11.5" of lift in the rear 9.5" of lift up front Dana 60 up front 14 bolt ff in the rear the tires are 39.5" iroks on 20,s the Interior is 1991 suburban buckets in the front and rear than I added pw,pl.
