Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
Ok, enough chit-chat! Back to work!
Got the passenger side door done last night - I had actually been dreading painting the inside of these doors, because I wasn't quite sure how I was going to do it without messing up some of my previous (interior) work. Normally, I believe, the door jambs and inners are done prior to doing the exterior paint and restoring the interior, so that any collateral "mess" doesn't matter. I had two ideas which I think helped here: a) I minimized the painting needed by cleaning with laquer thinner/adhesive remover in the hinge area b) I masked the outside of the vehicle with THIS: Regular ole' Saran wrap. I figured it would provide good, quick coverage and it would stick by itself. You can see it did manage to catch some overspray: So here's the panel painted: and the door trim panel installed:

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
You know, I really haven't said much about how well this little truck drives: it goes straight, shifts easily, accelerates briskly and stops smoothly. It's nice and tight; It really is a very pleasant truck to drive and is like a brand new "old" truck.

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
Yes - those are new panels from LMC. I wasn't sure I was going to like them at first: they are blow molded (rather than the original injection molded) and I was concerned that they were going to look cheap. By the time you dress them out, with the arm rest, door handle pull cup and the original trim, I think they look very good.
Thanks, guys, btw - K

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
Ok - so with the completion of the inside of the driver's door, and some touch ups in the bed, I've finished everything I set out to do.
I used the same technique for the inside of the door (including the "Saran Wrap" masking):

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
And here are the previously promised pictures of the inside of the box. I used Rustoleum, and I let my daughter paint it while I worked on the doors (which saved me a couple days). Total cost for the box = $6.78.

Re: Intro from an old Assembly Plant guy
Congratulations Keith, you've come a long way building your truck for the second time It looks awesome, you've done some things with this truck that I will carry over to mine, ie: lowering the rear the way you did, wheel refinishing, random paint/touch up techniques. Thanks for all the help, and thanks for sharing.
