Now I have a Problem, It didn't show up till yesterday. Saturday afternoon, is when we filled the truck at the gas station, as you know I filled it to the top, and then drove home and parked it. no problems. It was a nice day yesterday, so we took the truck out for a drive. we stopped at my parents, and we noticed fuel running out of the fuel fill, we were on a slight incline, and I knew I had it completely full so Ifigured that was it. We decided to burn a little fuel out of it, and take it for a drive. The whole time we were driving fuel was running out of the fill. I got it back home, still running out like it was way to full. So I siphoned some fuel off, not a lot but enough to keep it from running out. My thought was the fuel in the tank was expanding from the heat the 80 degree day, and since it was so full it couldn't vent properly. but after I siphoned it off I let it sit in the sun for a few hours , with no leaks. Until I started it. as soon, as i started it was back to pouring out, shut the truck off, and opened the fill, It is completely full again, right to the top. anybody have any ideas as to why this is happening?

hmmmm.... sounds like the tanks not vented properly and the pressure from the pump is actually collapsing the tank... have you tried just leaving the fill cap off and running her?

Is it possible that your return is aerating and causing the fuel to foam up and over?

Boy, That would be a hell of a pump, to collapse a metal tank. I understand what your saying. I do believe it has something to do with the vent system. my vent is a 3/8 hose that pretty much runs along side of the filler hose and then vents into the cap which is suppose to be vented. When I got home from work yesterday, pulled it out in the driveway and started it up, opened the fuel cap and no over flow, so I closed it and let run some more still no overflow. Took it down the road, romped on it. swayed it back and forth still no overflow. I dont understand it. it was pouring out when I put it back in the garage Sunday. It acts as if there was a air bubble in the tank,and has since purged itself, but dont know how thats possible. the only thing i can think of is, it was so full even the vent hose had fuel in it. does that make sense, if so How would I keep the vent hose from filling up as well. thanks for your input, and help.

I suppose this is possable to, but how would i know thats whats happening, and how would i fix it. I guess i need to better understand the way a fuel tank works. aside from just holding fuel. thank you for you input as well.

i didn't mean crushing it like a pepsi can! rather than me go back through your thread since i cant remember... how long is your return hose? maybe the regulator is sending back the extra fuel if she was just sitting there idling after you filled up. along with the heat and expansion. is your regulator on the fuel rail at the engine? this has to be something rather simple... i'm thinking man

Putting the last custom touches on the old girl. installed a auto dimming mirror, with temp, compass with led map lights. works pretty good.

Nice mirror. I'm guessing you had it so full that when the engine returned fuel, the only place for it to go was out the vented cap. So the same thing would happen if the fuel expanded when it gets hot out. We have some equipment at work that is that way. The operators are supposed to quit adding fuel when it comes to the top one time. Other wise they will have the fill tube and vent plumb full and the return fuel will over flow and act like a syphon and continue to pull fuel out of the tank. Good luck with it!

The stock ones look fine, but I have to be honest and say I like the aftermarket ones better. They continued the "little bit old, little bit new" theme into the door panels. I don't mind newer parts on older trucks, but something just doesn't feel right to me about older parts on newer trucks. Just my opinion, and it looks great no matter what you go with.
