Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
thanks Dale!
scored more....$15 box blazer looks to be mpc snap-tite rescue blazer. un-built no-box goodwrench nascar truck (already have, but lots of parts), another 2wd dually, & a topless s-10. not into the s-10, but it does have nice rims |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
there was also a set of BF baja T/A's in the box
and this, yeah, a car, but it was thrown in on a trade (who dont like black T/A's?) then i stepped completely out of my building boundry's & bought this for $20. why? dont know, just looks COOL! he also has the matching pumper truck & boom truck................................. box is beat to heck, but everything is there, all "over 300 parts" of it. not sure, but guessing the first issue of this model (early '70's...?) the prices on the back of the instruction sheet sure look like '70's era.... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
now that i'm done playing with my new junk, see how them swampers are going to look
maybe shorten the wheelbase a small bit that blazer is to nice to rob the hood from, so fix what i got.... dont know where the other piece is it's to narrow too.... still needs work, but i'll do that at final bodywork- tired of sanding right now.... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
been getting some of the basic's done. lots of trial & error & FITTING!
nothing glamorous been spending too much lately (according to wife...) so i did'nt order my $30 one ton rims. using the rims from the sneaky pete. besides not being close to fitting, they will need lock-outs & axle/axle flanges. what a boring thing to do....sand, sand, sand made a few changes to the frame, started adding rivets and finally got some kind of tub happening. was going to build one, but it would use up my 030 stash, & i'll need it for later. seeing how 'bout 91% of it is out of my junk box.....hate them ugly molded seats- at least they match this is what i got so far after figuring it all out, i will make door panels, window cranks, seatbelts,...... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
well, the tub fits nice, i have a floor. now i can get going. just have to mock up a drivetrain & mounts. thinking i should have bought 44's or 49's, them 38's look small......

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
Man, you been busy while I was up north at my cabin. It all looks great and I agree about shortening the wheel base. I like the 38's. The front end would sit a little higher with a load on it. So with a truck up there it will look correct. I'm also liking the detail (rivets). Nice attention to details. Keep it up!

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
hey, it's always great to get out!
got a question, prob simple & stupid to you, but i have'nt drove a rollback, nor can i find a pic on the computer- are the deck controls mounted to the deck? or stationary & mounted to the frame? gathering parts from my stash, only matched part of the 454 is the block/tranny. everything else is mis-match..,.. getting good at scratchin' air cleaners... some cab work the firewall is from the sneaky pete kit, has a mini kenworth nose, so after a bunch of grinding- got it into a squarebody. lost the floor ribbing sanding the bejeezus out of it, so laid some strip styrene over what was left. will putty it up & smooth it & hopefully look like actual cab ribbing |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
have a warn electric winch i was going to use on the deck, but it looked TINY & WIMPY on there....went looking for a pic & see some of the older trucks are running worm gear winches. i think a worm gear with cogged wheels looks more interesting then a wimpy electric, so i ripped apart a old car cassette player, hoping to get one or 2 decent size wheels. boy, was i surprised when this many came out of it....
but i'm really liking these things too, whatever they are.... couple yr supply of oil filters. couple of the bigger ones on the hydraulic tank..... this is what i got so far.... and check these babies out! guy on the model board is casting these, i ordered 4 racks of them- $3 a rack. wish i had these yrs ago.... and another dude from canada (less shipping/ no exchange ) is casting me up a couple of sets of some beauty 1 ton rims, & only a buck & a half a rim |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
The bed controls are frame mounted (stationary). Standard equipment is on the drivers side. Optional dual controls are on both sides. Air cleaner looks great. Everything is coming out nice. Creative thinking on the wideband using the transistors as oil filters.

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
that $15 box of junkers is coming in handy.....
snagged a fuel tank from one. made up some sideboxes. "latches" are ford explorer door handles... some bed controls put a hydraulic cylinder on the wheel lift. am in the process of making a hydraulic tank to mount behind the pass sidebox. will be fairly easy to mount a control valve & lines & plumb the rams with them right across from each other... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
my fishing license expired!...
soon as i found out it was a metal roof & we were taking the flatdeck trailer, tried to slide my quad on the back of it, but the boss was'nt going for it..... so i finally got all the hard points, locations etc. changed the firewall, needed inner fenders, so into my new $15 box & strait to the s-10 (knew it would come in handy....) a little chop work... into the stripper.. started a visor, & a hydraulic tank. the pencil line is how much i cut-off to get the rear wheels where they needed to be |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
here's what it looks like jammed in the crew. also made a rad support. the holes in the ends are to clear the headlights. will put dual batts in to cover them up
the finished visor rudimentary control valve. will plumb it with hard lines on the frame (easiest) with hoses at the rams. also got my engine/tranny mounts located & in rear axle & springs are built & almost ready to go in. notice the hyd tank is narrower... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
here's some more boring scratch work.....
tie rod & front u-bolts looking pretty plain on the pass. side- needs a air tank. figures, i have no tubing that big, but i do got a felt pen.... bent up some hyd. lines. the long one to the deck ram will half to be finished when it goes in. wont get it thru the hole in the frame otherwise... |
