I'm heading outside to start pulling off chrome and handles and the like. My 63 Burb goes off for paint Monday.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

Removed my rear air bags yesterday and put in a set of 3" drop rear coils. Hoping to fab up a watts link over the weekend and get rid of the original bar. Installed some Marshall 2 5/8" gauges. Hoping to get the bed liner sprayed too during this nice weather we are having. Then bodywork and paint, all in hopes of making a May 10th show we will be at as a vendor.

I ran out to Laguna Seca and bought a fresh drum of Sunoco 104. Gonna cruise over to Monterey tonight and scare some tourists.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

Dragged the truck out of the yard where it has been sitting all winter and into the garage. Started dis-assembling the front end to start rust repair. One fender took an hour and involved cutting three bolts and snapping one more.
There is a *lot* of rot on the fenders, radiator support & front panel. Going to be interesting fabricating it all.

I had the same problem on my GMC (Zombie truck). Luckly I have a quanity of spare parts. So I picked out some mediocre parts that where dented but not rusty pounded out the dent,s and changed the complete front cap. Just my opinion but it think For the time it will take you to repair yours if you paid yourself 50 cents an hour you could buy new parts.

Hi, Id like to second what OTM said, You may want to just get some used parts to save a lot of time, I do like your enthusiasm though.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

I have been searching for used parts around here for months, with little luck. Pretty much everything in the northeast is just as rusted, or they want thousands of dollars for what I would call a parts truck. Metal and welding wire is relatively cheap compared to the $900+ aftermarket parts would be(not counting the inner fenders even), so I figure it'll be good practice to try doing it myself.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

I got my gas tank the other day. The Fed Ex guy brought it to me.. yay. I started putting it together and have the sender set up to go in next.
I removed the spare Tire from my truck (which is an L78-15 Sears Bias-Ply Tire. I think it is dated as Jan 1988) drilled out the rivits to the retaining bar and that is pretty much where I am at now. Hoping to install the tank in the next few days and get the stock one out of the cab. Yes it stinks in there after putting fuel in.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

Here's the universal TBI tank installed between the frame rails of my 62. I also took the opportunity to wire loom frame wiring, paint the frame, install new 3" drop coil springs (2" blocks already installed), relocate the exhaust to discharge out the side(instead of under bed blowing on tank), change the cab bushings, paint the inside of the bed flat black and install a "new" custom wood floor.

Around here the trucks mostly rust out below the battery box and its hard to find a rust free radiator support, also at the bottom of the front fenders and rockers. On yours it appears that you still have the very front bolt holding the front fender. That bolt is a real pain to remove. Ive drilled a 1/4 inch hole in the fender and used a 1/2 drive extension ratchet & 1/2 six point socket to remove it. Just braze or weld the hole up. I never install that bolt when I put one back together. We once bought a truck that came from Chicago. It looked fine. It has made from bondo. My son stated they must have purchased their body filler by the 55 gallon drum.

Fired up the new motor for the first time. I will load the video later. It sounds healthy to say the least.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

not really today but more like the whole weekend.

Started off Friday evening by placing the fuel cell between the rails in the rear. Then went on to running new fuel line from the rear of the truck to the front. Had to chill out for the day because I let a friend borrow one of our vehicles and was stranded at the house (needed parts).

The next morning, went to the hardware store and bought enough nuts, bolts and washers to choke 5 evil donkeys and a stubborn mule. Also picked up various fittings and hoses. When I got back home, it was time to bolt everything in place. I also took out the old, in cab fuel tank and modified my transmission hump (running PB gear up front).

Ran a few pounds of pressure to the temporary air lines and tires, cranked it up, and drove it out of the garage. She also took her first steps on the road but was cut short due to some bad lug nuts and no tags. But all in all, a very successful outing. She did get a bit fussy about going back into the garage though... which leads to the laundry list of items I need to do before making her truly road worthy (both known issues and some surprises).

Cleaned myself up and headed out (minus truck) to a car show they have every third Saturday of the month. ...I now have a target due date.

..and the oil spot in front is from the Blazer... she was being a diva that day too!

Had to move my truck outta the way of the back hoe attachment so I could install it on the tractor. Took some pictures while I was at it. Showing off my sign "Chevy Truck Parking Only." lol.

Re: What did you do to your truck today part II.

Got new tires. 345/30r19 on all 4 corners.

Only to tow the truck home because I had too thick of a front wheel adapter.

But when I finally changed it, everything cleared.
