Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music

Jeff Healy's music is underrated somehow, that first tune is real good.

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music

Pretty good pickin' if you ask me. I think he wrote that first song.

Today I put on The Rolling Stones Beggars Banquet, an all time great album front to back. One of those that I love as much now as I did then. After that, it was YouTube, came John Mayall and The Bluesbreakers, the first album. That has to be about the most influential album for me in my whole life. I was just a kid when it came out. My family was very musical and in a varied way. My oldest sister (4 years older) was a teenager and she dated musicians. I got turned on to this album and it showed me there is fantastic music out there outside the mainstream. Music made with a passion, not dollar bills in mind. This was the first I ever heard Eric Clapton, well any of them. John McVie, later Fleetwood Mac bassist led me to that group in it's early years. Ansley Dunbar was a fantastic drummer and that was when I was first starting to play. Then, of course, John Mayall. I had every album of his and he could put together the best musicians ever. I must have seen him in concert at least ten times.

Here is that album. I hope you can listen to it all

That first tune is a lot like Cream's born under a bad sign, thought it was at first. Never heard of Ansley Dunbar, yeah he was great, he played with top notch guys.

Some great Jazz in the mix, that sax is first rate. GREAT harmonica.

They remind me of The Animals a bit.

WOW!, what's that tune called at 21:00? That's the (**^)^()^. I can't find it under "shotgun at my back."

I only have two Mayall tunes, going to be a lot more.

Parchman Farm. A Fast one. Dunbar is knockin' on some skins there, ey?

Are you familiar with Mayall's "Back To The Roots" album? A double album chock full of gathered talent. A true classic. Keef Hartley, another great drummer. Check out "Groupie Girl" @ 15:45 for some hot sax

Yeah it's real snappy. Thanks.

Groupie Girl is one tune I already have. You're not kidding about the sax, was playing it, doing something else and, ah, what's that........

Not so familiar with John Mayall. I'll check out Back to the Roots too.

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music

On that album, for another great flute, then sax... well John's organ and all the rest song, check out My Children. Mark Almond does the sax and flute on the album.

since this seems to have become a conversation between us two, , I have a song I liked and grew to love that is not of my typical tastes. But I am open minded. The music you father's band comes to mind, now that I've heard some. But the song is Nelson Riddle's theme song for the Route 66 TV show. I'm not an easy listening fan, per say, but between this show being my favorite as a child, I guess first because of the Vette, then the freedom seeking drifter theme, later the philosophical aspect, and now the nostalgia. And the song is just perfect. That piano is just great. So smooooth yet peppy.

My other favorite was 77 Sunset Strip because of Kookie's hot rod T-Bucket. The song? Eh, it's alright. It sure was a fun one for us kids. I think I remember saying "Seventy Seven Sunset Strip, then slapping a buddy or a sister twice and vice versa. Or before a well controlled double burp or fart

They finally play the song at about 2:00

Then there was the theme song to Hawaiian Eye. Surfing!! Me and my sisters would always get a kick out of doing the Hawaiian eyE!

A good club song from the era

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music

You watched some really old shows, I've heard of Route 66, never watched it. Big orchestra playing that theme.

The gal singing Female Pop Performance is a DOLL. The scene reminds me of one I JUST found of my dad the other day in fact, first time I’ve ever seen him perform with one of the old orchestras, so, very cool personally, triggers an emotion, I've watched it too many times. He’s “Carlos”? in The Big Wheel with Mickey Rooney. The music starts at 33:45, I don’t believe he wrote the pieces, but that’s his orchestra. He’s holding the violin in the background of an earlier moment in the scene, but he’s clearly playing the maracas on the left after "can of Buckshot Carlos”. The scene flashes back to them as the party goes into a drunk behind faded martinis & Champaign, which is just a little ironic☺ I’ve seen him play & dance like that before, but had forgotten all about it.

Luck had it YOUTUBE has the entire movie.

Thanks for sharing that. So fine. Just him and his guitar.

Cee Cee James reminds me of Janis Joplin. She's her own artist, not a copy. But certainly carries out what Janis started

While I'm on the female track, Beth Hart. I may have already put this song or her up already. But if I don't remember then it's been long enough!

Dayum! Talk about a heart felt song/performance

Me too! I always had the 67-72s and the music was always there. I associate them as one thing. Not hard to want for those days, but I guess they're just still here!!

That Karen Carpenter could smack some skins

I added a couple more:

I feel like I need to put some kind of disclaimer in here. Cuz first of all, I never listened to The Carpenters and didn't pay them much attention. I knew of them and couldn't help but hear their music. But I never even knew she played drums! Quite a drummer!

This is the music I was hearing when the '67 trucks came out. And the 60-66s were already cool! I was building the model kits back then
The Animals

I want to share this older music thread that was a good one, although a short one.

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music

Thanks Mike! I've heard of those guys, and that song!!

I was thinking back on my teens and what a big Fleetwood Mac fan I was. The early stuff. I got turned on to music through my four years older sister. I was a teeny bopper in 1970 hanging out at the 7-11 with friends when I met Butch. He was a freshly returned Viet Nam vet living here with his two combat buddies just decompressing. Fleetwood Mac was not well known yet and we bonded over learning one another were big fans.

English Rose was the first album I heard. Here is just Black Magic Woman

Here's the album. Skip to 30:00 for a great song, if you don't want to listen to the whole thing

my brother-in-law on guitar here. Too bad he and the bassist left the group a few years ago. This is older. The drummer left after this video was made. He was an original member.

Re: Nudder Music Thread: 67-72 Music

You know how a song will come up in your memory after not hearing it for years? Happens all the time with so many songs in there. For some reason I thought of this early one from The Rolling stones. I was so young back then. Not a typical Stones tune, but they did used to have a more folksy side. Beautiful song

That was '66. This is '12
