8 lug wheels - what's on YOUR truck?

True but I would imagine it would add $100/ wheel which will make them a $1200 set of wheels. I may consider this if I could actually see a picture of them mounted on something with 8 lugs but too big a gamble otherwise. From the 1 picture that does exist it looks like the "slots" are much larger on these than the classics and I am thinking what if that makes them look bad.

Also I like Ultra 50/51 wheels about 90% as much as I like slot wheels and a set of 4 is under $500 shipped AND they are available in 16x8 instead of 17X9.

this is what I just put on my truck. Level 8 Punch and LT265/75 R16 Tires. I got the entire package from America's Tire.

They cannot, the center of the wheel is to small to be drilled on the blanks apparently. I paid for 5 of the blanks and was denied on them being able to drill them. Trevor

Those look sick man. I love the level 8 wheels. What's your backspacing? How much out the door

The wheels are 16 x 8.5 8-165.10 -6 the -6 is the offset I believe the backspacing is about 4 1/2" Really not a lot to chose from, but it really fits well on the truck, before it looked like too skinny of a tire set in too much. Now the wheels/tires fit very well. It was right at $1100 out the door with road hazard, new lugs everything. BTW the tires I got are GT Radial Adventuro AT3. They tried to talk me into a more expensive tire, but I really didn't need them as I will be lucky to put 5000 miles a year on the truck. At least for the next few years.

I'm having a hard time finding stock wheels for my '68 3/4 ton with clip style hubcaps.
I wonder if they could make me some?

My caps did not fit real well. It took a little massaging and 3M double sided adhesive. I have seen clips that can be welded on to your wheels.

Update: Spoke with Jeff, in the product design group at American Racing (now owned by "Wheel Pros" out of Lakewood Colorado). He was the one responsible for convincing their production dept. to release the (17") Ansen Sprint slotted wheel in our GM 8x6.5 pattern, with our exact 3/4 & 1 ton 67-72 trucks in mind. He was unaware ARE dropped production of this size. After investigating internally, he was informed sales of this pattern after 1.5 years of production (since Aug 2013) were too slow to warrant continued production of this size. HQ says they have no plans to resume production in the 8x6.5 pattern. And yes, the "blanks" are based on the lighter weight 5 lug (~2500 lb, less material) molds instead of the 8 lug molds, so they cant be drilled for 8 lug patterns. So this indeed echo's what others here have also discovered.

Under these dim circumstances, Id have to agree, the "Ultra 50" is probably one of the better wheels that captures the period correct custom wheel look in an 8x6.5 pattern. If anyone knows of a 16", 17", 18" (16.5" have been discussed extensively already) 8x6.5 slotted wheel or other era/period correct wheel, please share the info

I have a set of the 17 dodge wheels on my 71, and had to put 1/4 spacers on the back to keep them from rubbing on the inner wheel well. I've been looking at putting some thicker spacers on it to get them flush, and allow the room for the late '90s style center caps.

Those are the exact pictures that sold me on the Ultra 50's. Once I get my motor sorted out I plan to get a set of those in 16x8 and mount some 285-75r16's. My truck is running that tire size now with 0 offset 16x8 wheels and no rubbing at all. The Ultras are -6mm offset so they will move the wheel/ tire out about 1/4 inch so that should not effect the fitment.

The only thing I would change is the Ultra center caps seem to have fake hub nuts molded into them for decoration. I may end up changing them out for plain chrome.

Dug a little deeper on sources of classic slotted mag wheels in modern sizes (ie. sizes you can actually still find quality radial road tires for). "US Mags" brand, now owned by MHT wheel, has the "U433 Indy" wheel available in custom builds; Its a forged two piece welded wheel blank drilled to your specs 8 lug x 6.5 BC, 16x8, 17x8 etc. Should be more than strong enough for even serious towing or off-roading. Problem is they cost a fortune - 16x8 = $875/ea, 17x8 = $700/ea. As usual, no 8 lug pics to be found anywhere, but heres a 5 lugger with the larger 4.5" center bore for perspective. Nice looking wheel though..

There is a website that specializes in classic used wheels with a set of 16x8.5 original slot wheels that have been restored in 8 lug for "Only" $2600

Those wheels look great drive-em. I've been thinking about getting a set of them for winter wheels and I think I'm sold now.

Layne, I bought a set of 68 3/4 ton hubcaps that need refinishing but intend to eventually mount them on a set of Wheel Vintiques. I was planning on tapping out the rims and screw on a set of spring clips like Delmo does on his rims and people do with the GM Transport wheels.

i put these on a little over a week ago. I don't think they look too bad. Definitely not period correct, but they'll do for now. ...now the truck is begging for an elevation change though.

As soon as my 2/4 drop springs come in they'll be put under the truck to hopefully close up a large portion of that wheel gap.

Chrome 16" rims that were on the truck when I bought it (not sure what brand or model). I polished them up so they look a lot better, but they are still rusty in places.
