Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

Yeah just make sure it looks like the rusty one with a thick wall around the hole. I didn't even look at it before all this.

I couldn't believe it, it wasn't even getting tight. Just my luck I guess. I'll take the pump off and see if I can get a refund. I posted a pic of the old pump and you can see the difference in the holes edges thickness. Check this if you guys buy a pump.
Hey Chuck,

If the old one is the one that I had on it, it is brand new. The water pump failed on the drive back from Colorado and so I had to replace it. Less than 2000 miles.

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

Thanks Drew. I remembered that you had replaced it but didn't know how many miles it had on it. I wire brushed it a little and the surface rust came off easy. So I figured it must not have been that old. I put the fitting back in and painted it. Put it on too. Just need to touch up some paint and its done. I put my balancer on the shaft and it looks like the timing tab is too far from the balancer. I'll have to do some research.

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

Well I learned that the original harmonic balancer was an 8''. I got a 6 3/4''. So when I put it up to the shaft the tab was farther away from the balancer than I wanted. I ordered a tab for 6 3/4''. I got the advice from some members here in the engine and drivetrain section.

Me too. They were pretty cool about it. The guy just looked at it and said it was a bad cast.

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

Nice truck build Chuck.....If it is going to be a power steering truck, I would love to have part numbers or measurements of the pulleys if possible!.....Or if you could snap a picture, I have two five gallon buckets of GM pulleys that I can go thru if I only knew which ones I need!!...lol....Thanks George

Re: Chucks SWB Fleetside

Moving at a snails pace. But moving. I got the fuel line on. I Hooked up the gas pedal linkage. I got the Harmonic balancer and lower pulleys on. I also got an electronic dist. and some rear wheel wells. I got the parts off of the board. I haven't got the wells yet though. Their new Goodmark ones.
