Rustbuket 67 build "Georgia"

I painted the front cross member but didn't get pics before I bagged it so I would not get all this crud on it. Today I was working on stripping the crud off of the rear end. I need to get some oven cleaner to dissolve the crud out of the little nooks and crannies then spot blast. I am going to pull the axles again to remove the backing plates for cleaning and put some new axle bearings in. That much closer to painting everything. Also managed to impregnate the wife.

The purple one the monkey and the flag are my favorites too! She did good. I think you and the little brother from project racing $$ should win some kind of award for best wire wheelers ever, I don't have that kind of patience. Oh and don't think I was going to let this slide

Nice progress you are making. I have also been sidetracked by a home improvement project, as well as a lack of overall motivation which will hopefully only be temporary. Also have not gotten any notifications of updates to your thread in a while.

Hoping to get back at it in the next few weeks!

I had to go check out racing $$, he is the wire wheel king. I just ran out of money and did it the hard way. Paint job looks familiar

I have been busy preparing/organizing/cleaning blah for the new one as well as school etc blah blah so not much progress but I have been working on some rear end repair and prep. pics will follow in a couple days. waaaah

I had to go check out racing $$, he is the wire wheel king. I just ran out of money and did it the hard way. Paint job looks familiar

You noticed that too huh? I had my paintjob figured out in my head when I was still looking for a 58/59 and then modified it when I switched to our style truck. I even was going to do a maroon stripe in the beginning, but I switched to blue before I saw racing $$'s. When I saw his I thought holy crap, this dudes in my head!

You might already be planning on this, but before you install your A arms look up the caster mod. I didn't stumble across that mod until after I had my frontend done but I plan on doing it when I redo my front, it's a freebie. My 3" springs bottom hard on even medium sized bumps so I plan on switching to drop spindles and 1" springs, and of course getting a proper alignment.

I searched around on that caster mod, Maybe... I think it is a great idea but on the other hand I plan on changing most of the suspension out for PB $$$ if I get the $$$ part so I dont want to spend much more time, well see I might go ahead and do it.


Here is my baby step update.

Apparently some time ago one of my axle u bolts was a little loose
as you can imagine it wollared (sp) out the holes in the saddle. Yeah I know they sell new ones.

I made a copper slug to hold the ID of the holes, stick it in clamp it a weld away... check out them boogered up holes

Pics of me welding up the carnage. I ground it smooth and welded a few voids on the ID and cleaned it up with a die grinder.

Booyah! all cleaned up better than new.

Thanks Gdavis it was kind of a pain but yeah I didn't have to worry about aligning a new saddle properly, and it was my favorite price: free!

Great progress and nice repair work! Love the humor throughout also congrats on the impending lack of sleep/bundle of joy coming and the last picture has to be the most expensive item you've purchased for the build....did you buy the whole box on ebay for $1500 or just that one packaage?

Thanks Jonathan, Yes I am a little silly at times. Thanks we cant wait! Probably take a few weeks off work to help with the "lack of sleep issues" so I can sleep during the day, worked out good with the first one. I payed normal retail for the Twinkies just happen to find them at a gas station when out hunting maybe I should have sold them on ebay and bought some tires. I bought 3 packages and ate half after the lady ate half of them. I will miss the twinkies I think the Boyds efi tank is the biggest $ item here so far.


Here is my update: Ate lots of turkey,ham and stuffing. No egg nog yet.
finshed busting the crud on the alxe, oven cleaner does a nice job of breaking down the goo. Blasted the backing plates and hard to reach areas and hosed it with some Tractor Supply tractor/implement paint. Looks nice clean and shiny!

Another small update, working my spring retainers. The bolts broke off in the weld nuts so I cut the corners with a dremel and knocked them off with a hammer. Welded new nuts on all 4 retainers. And a few other parts I blasted at work. Motor mount stands and parking brake cable brackets. Too cold to paint them now.
