Thank You Rian. I am still agitated by the runs on the back and haven't been out to see how it all looks completely dry. Going to drop by today after work and see how the bad the runs are. I saw some tips online of using a razor blade to shave down runs. Might save me some time sanding.

Thank You Ryan. Yes the weather was in the 70's for 3 days and then we are dropping back to the 40's. I plan to get the back sanded and prepped and ready to shoot for when the next 70* day my popup. If not have to wait til March

No problem there Clem. All those motors where my teenage years. I still have a heavy foot but this motor is bone stock so no use in pushing it hard. Just a cruiser. Before my father in law died and we talked about the truck he made me promise I would not put a hot rod engine in it. So keeping my promise. Plus the fact that the older I get the more I just want the engine to run good, sound good, and be dependable. Those hot rod motors with high lift cams always need some attention of some sort.

I haven't heard of using the razor blade on primer and paint. I have heard about using it on clear though. Not saying it wouldn't work, not to mention primer isn't that hard to sand. Just don't sand THAT part alone as you'll put a dip in the primer that you'll see later. (I don't know what you know and don't know when it comes to painting) Sorry if that sounded a$$ish

I found it on different sites using it on solid color and clear. The reason I wanted to try it is so I don't sand down to the primer. If I can just knock down the runs and then scuff the white then I will just reshoot it without having to primer again.

I stopped by the garage on the way home from work to see how the paint dried. I was very disgusted/disappointed/depressed over how it came out when I left Sunday. Well seeing it today dried I feel much better. The sections where the paint came out smooth have an awesome satin eggshell sheen. The front pillars and inside the door jams look great and the front eyebrow.

The back does have a million drips I will have to cut and respray. The top I am torn on. It is very smooth around the edges but out in the center it has bad orange peel. Too bad its the Satin paint if it was gloss I am sure I could cut it and buff it out. Not sure yet if I will respray it. I have enough paint left to spray the back so I will focus on that first.

Just hate having to do things twice after all that prep work, but that's what comes from being a rookie painter.

i hear ya bro... don't get down on yourself. theres just a ton of things that can go wrong in paint work. even the most experienced painter can get major mishaps. and doing stuff twice, i guess its part of the deal. a good way to look at it is... its only time, not thousands of dollars you'd be spending to have someone else do it for you. and the DIY pride when finished will be huge.

Thanks Clem. Really appreciate you support and everyone's on this forum. I tend to be my own worst critic wanting everything to be perfect. It is part of my personality striving to be a perfectionist and having a touch of OCD. In the end I keep telling myself it is a "50 year old truck" and is going to be a driver not a show truck. So it doesn't have to be perfect. Most of the mistakes I make would never be spotted by anyone except maybe another car or truck guy. I felt the same way when the seam sealer on the roof messed up and I got that straightened out. Its not about the obstacle when run into but how we got around them.

I sanded all the runs out on the back of the cab. Today was a beautiful 72*. Perfect day for painting. Masked off the back on the side of the sail panels and shot some paint on. It came out great this time. 2nd times the charm.

I am very impressed with the fine line tape I bought. I only had one little place on the front driver A pillar mess up.

This paint has a very unigue texture when it dries. At first I thought the roof had orange peeled. But I think it is just the way the paint dries. A very cool Egg shell satin.

Need to get the bodywork finished on the bottom half and order some Blue paint. I think by the time I get through painting the whole truck I will have this painting thing figured out. Maybe!

No worries MJ. If it makes you feel better I truly have been working on my cab since July of 2013 on and off. It has been a long road. I only get 10-15 hours a week to work on my truck so progress is slow for me too.

At some point I will figure it out. My biggest problem is I get so excited to spray paint I get in a hurry and don't hold the gun parallel to the bodywork. That's how I made all the runs on the back. Just have to watch my technique.

Nice! I got the same way when I painted. I feel like I need to hurry before the paint dries in the gun or something. I know it won't but like you said just work on the technique. Keep up the progress. Looks great. Best of all your learning from the mistakes. There are a lot of people that don't have the ability to. They put the blame on other things.

Thanks Clem. I appreciate the support you gave in an earlier post. It helps keep me motivated by the tremendous support on this forum. I would really like to come to your event in October with Rian and Martin but I don't think I will be able to make it this year. Hopefully when my truck is done maybe I can make it.

You are spot on about the hurrying. I feel like I am trying to disarm a bomb and only have a few seconds left before it goes off. Plus after all the runs I was a little gun shy. But I setup a big cardboard against the wall to check the flow of paint and spray pattern. I also heated the truck up with the 2 big halogen lights I have and warmed the paint, hardener, and reducer in the kitchen sink in warm water for about 30 minutes. As you said to make a mistake is human to make it twice well....
