Good point. Now I'm going to add some chains to the winter kit in my Suburban. No snow at present but we've had over seven inches this season.

My headlights didn't match so I replaced them today. I tried out these Hoppy adjusters that a friend let me borrow. We'll see how it looks at night.

I am man enough to admit when I make mistakes. I never checked the transfer case oil when I started driving this truck, and it was empty until I filled it the other day. Now I know why it always made a loud clunk noise going between drive and reverse. I don't have that many miles on it, but it could not have been good for it. I have another NP205 to swap in if it fails down the road.

The transmission has also starting to leak more recently, and probably should get rebuilt or at least re-sealed. It works fine otherwise. I also have another TH350 to swap in (needs rebuilding). I'd prefer to fix it all at the same time, but I am going to drive it as is for now.

I'm sure it will leak there now that it has oil. It would also be nice if my speedometer wasn't way off. When it says 60, GPS speedometer says 40.

This shop can build a gear ratio adapter to replace the OE example in a ratio that gives you an accurate speedo reading. https://speedometercablesusa.com/

They assembled one for my Blazer and now the speedo is dead accurate.

This shop can supply the inner and outer seals for the adapter nut at the tcase or a brand new nut with the seals already in place. I’ve got their seals with the intent to install this spring.

The lumber rack had a couple cracks in it, so I had a local welder add some reinforcement. I just have to spray some paint on it so it doesn't rust.

A little spray paint should keep the rack from rusting. I know, I know... I should have just taken it off and done the whole thing.

With the factory tow hooks being so expensive, these 3/4" thick steel bolt-on recovery points are perfect for this truck. They are made to go under the factory bumper. I bought them off a guy on Facebook - $90 shipped for the pair. I need to buy paint, nuts/bolts/washers, and a 5/8" drill bit to go through the frame.

Now that I have them on the truck, I don't like where the holes are drilled in these. They are so close to the top and bottom edge of the frame that there isn't room for a washer on the inside of the frame. Since my frame doesn't have any holes drilled, the maker offered to get me replacement hooks with a different drill pattern. I just have to wait a couple weeks.

I traded a friend my chrome reproduction bumper for a factory painted bumper. The metal is easily twice as strong. I wonder if I can get the silver paint off without destroying the white paint underneath. Looks great as is.

So the guy that made these shackle hooks said it would cost extra for a custom set. I decided to go ahead and drill the frame out for the ones that I have. Sandblasted, painted, and installed.

There was no room for a washer on the top bolt, and I had to cut down the inside washer on the bottom bolt, but I would say it is still a lot stronger than factory tow hooks.

I used the truck to help a friend pick up a temporary PG&E power pole from up in Paradise. His house in Boulder Creek burned down last year. I'm glad I can help him rebuild.
