Re: Jesses' 48 PU
I also recessed the firewall and made the trans cover. I learned from my mistakes on the last cab so I minimized the hole on the driver side to keep as much space as possible for the pedals and the trans cover is removable. The last time I welded it in solid and had no access to the trans.

Re: Jesses' 48 PU
After fitting the floor portion with 16 gage metal I built the frame of the cover with 18 gage metal, made sure it fit snug before welding it solid.

Re: Jesses' 48 PU
Used 18 gage metal to keep it light and it was easy to bend on my cheap harbor freight metal brake

Re: Jesses' 48 PU
Comes off as a complete unit, giving me access to the trans and rear of the engine.

Re: Jesses' 48 PU
That cab looks really solid! Don’t think I’ve ever seen the underside of a AD cab that clean! Should be a good starting point!

Re: Jesses' 48 PU
Yes I feel lucky to have found such a good solid cab. Aside from the common cab corner rust, which was minimal. It is in great shape. I could have left it as it was, but wasnt crazy about the fiberglass repair someone did.

Re: Jesses' 48 PU
Been working on my truck any chance I get. The weather has been good and hot so been able to keep the frame out in the driveway and the cab in the garage. Also working from home so as soon as Im off, i head down to the garage and tinker on it til dark.
Finished the trans cover, installed it once and for all.. removed the seat frame to make room for my seat.

Re: Jesses' 48 PU
Trimmed the rear bracket and welded a 1/8 x 1 x 1 angle to keep it rigid and not lose its strength. I also bent some 16 gage metal to fill in the dead space on the floor and the seat would have something solid to sit on.
The seat is a second row Astro van seat. I removed its original frame and welded 11/2" square tubing. Doesnt look pretty but its functional. Have plenty of leg room.

Re: Jesses' 48 PU
By trimming the rear bracket my seat can move all the way back.

Re: Jesses' 48 PU
Sits nice and low. Once complete I can add a adapter to raise the seat if needed. But I think its good.

Re: Jesses' 48 PU
With all that finally done, I got to work on the underside, scuffed up the primer, sealed the seams with Eastwood seam sealer.
