Ok...so the 3 point anchors go back to '69...do we have any owners of a '68 that want to chime-in?

Re: What did you do to your Suburban Today?

I am going to add to the seat belt thread so it might give people ideas. I installed three point belts to my (now) bucket seat Suburban. I found it necessary for comfort to move the receptacles forward so I added aftermarket reinforcement plates. For the retractors I mounted them in a similar position to newer model trucks. I tacked the same reinforcement plates in the B pillar and used OE plastic plugs. I still need one for the drivers side. I might try to form some metal covers to hide the ugly retractors.

They came out very comfortable to wear.

A couple of questions if you will oblige me. How did you get the reinforcement plate inside of the door frame (B pillar). And where is this seatbelt thread? I must be using the wrong search words.

Thanks in advance.

the 68 I have sitting here (or what's left of it) does have anchors for 3 point belts

Sorry HO455...I "jokingly" suggested that we start a thread to ask the question "What years have the factory mounting anchors for the 3 point seatbelts" and it got answered so quickly that a separate thread wasn't started...but the results are in: '68 thru '72 have them...'67 doesn't (unless someone with a late model year '67 chimes in with a different answer?). Now we can return this to the original topic of "What did you do to your Suburban Today".

After deciding the reinforcement plate would go through the opening for the hinge bolts, I drilled holes for the mounting bolt and a couple small ones for welds. I used fishing line to pull the plate in position. I just replicated the hinge bolt hole on the drivers pillar.

Tear downs are easy. I gotta hope I remember how to put it all back together again. Lol

Re: What did you do to your Suburban Today?

Today, I was "gifted" the final piece of my interior puzzle by new member "gratefuldog". I drove about a hour to meet Pete at his work, where he gave me an original front bench seat from his '71 GMC Suburban! Sure...it had been "customized" a little by his dog...but it is the perfect candidate to get reupholstered at the same time as my center and rear seats! Thanks again, Pete...it was a pleasure to meet you!

**UPDATE**
I guess when my upholsterer disassembled/reassembled my seats, the clearance I had before is now somewhat less? The retractors would not fit back on the top seat bracket bolt without binding, so I had to use the nifty "L" brackets supplied by the seatbelt vendor. With a little black paint, it looks and fits fine...just not as simple and clean as when installed up higher, although this way, I was able to angle the retractor slightly so the belt doesn't rub against the guide like it did when it was more vertical...so that's a plus!

Re: What did you do to your Suburban Today?

All I did today was pull the 72 out of my new toy box to install a 2-post lift tomorrow. I hope to get it back on the road by early summer, it has been 5 years since I took it for a ride.

You will love the lift. I have had mine for about 6 years now.

I’m sure It will get used often and I will love it. I retired last week so I’m going to have plenty of time to put it to work and get the 72 back on the road.
