I was sent a veery short video tonight of that car. A great car.
Seems alot of old 12s are popping up of various kinds. Glad to see some of the motors being brought back. Thanks for posting Cayoterun They were sure a popular motor here for stationary use. Biggest complaint was fuel consumption, then discontinued and no parts. Several farmers have told me they thought the reason GMC quit them was that they built them tooo good. Would run for ever.

Wow, that hot rod was the look I was going for when I did that rat rod picture clear back at the beginning of this project. I'd go broke driving it, but who cares- money can't buy the smiles it'd put on your face.
Congrats on the maiden voyage! Man, I wish I could see her in person. You should mount a 500 gallon fuel tank on that flatbed and drive it to Indiana!

I happened to think today. Sometimes our biggest help comes from people we take for granted.
We have a man and wife team here in Guymon who own and operate L&J Auto Parts. They've been here several years and he has his own old V-12 and V-6 parts book he made up of specific parts and suppliers. If these obsolete parts can be found or substituted, they can. WOW! after watching the video i am really suprized that thing has alot of snap to it for having such a low rpm range on it....looks and sounds awsome....good luck and keep up the awsome work! i bet that thing would make for one heck of a pulling truck

Congradultions! That is really neat. I'm glad to see you got it going. If we didn't live so far apart I'm give you a hand with straighting the body out. Bauller just purs. When you get on it It sounds just like my 4.3 with open headers.

Some of you in the Evansville, In. area might want to check them out. http://thunderv12.com/home I just now read their specs, and they increased the redline to 5,000rpm on their modified engines. WHAT A BEAST!!!. I'm curious to see how they last. Hope they will hang together at that rpm. I wish them well and hope to see the old engines around for a long time in their new application. Did GM make a 1ton dually stepside bed similar to the one shown on page #4, Post# 98, this thread, or is that a photo-chop? I got the running boards extended and installed, then decided maybe a step-side bed might be an option if one could be found. I plan now to skirt the flatbed/w diamond plate similar to welding beds to hide the frame. It would be easier to have running boards in front of the rear fenders to fill the fuel tank. The cab to axle measures about the same on our '97 dually and this truck. (56"). A later model bed wouldn't look right, imo. Anyone out there have one they'd sell?

they did not make a dually stepside when that year bed was used (55-66), but there are aftermarket fiberglass fenders that are wider-made for street slicks, and tubbing-.
you could also just cut the inside of the bed a little, and put some narrowed inner wheel tubs out of a 60-66 fleet to cover the tires, should only be 4-6 inches into the bed. I think a long stepside bed would work, or if not long enough.. it would probably be pretty easy to lengthen it up with 2 pairs of bed sides and steps... in 55-59 gm did make a 10ft stepide, but they are pretty rare- here are some pics of a step bed that is tubbed out: Last edited by jonzcustomshop; 03-11-2009 at 03:18 AM. |

i got a job again and having fun at it too idea's for the trucks and the order of things to do are taking shape and get closer to being realized , a few more months and i be able to start building for real i complete 2 of the trucks intoo running fashion one custom and one basicly stock the thirth will be sacrificed for parts |

Quite a little blow. I stayed in by the fire and watched it blow by. Quite a few livestock died, and scattered all over the country.

Need to get "Balaur" covered up first. Several friends want us to put a heavy looking goose neck trailer on, head for some long grades in the Rockies, and see how many new trucks it would send to their dealerships to find out what's wrong with their truck.

Gotcha', Watayahknow, I might not go that far, but liked using the 12 stacks in some ways, but they were so loud, you couldn't have driven if far, even with ear protection. I have 4 straight pipes dumped out about 12" behind the cab now, but may eventually put 4 36" glass-pacs on it.
Grandkids sure liked the stacks. I'd pour a little oil down each one, then put coke cans on each, then start it up. Coke cans would fly everywhere, then as the oil got hot, the smoke would roll. In the eyes of the 5-9yr olds, "Pop" was cool. Cayoterun

Its nice to see people using the gmc v12s most people forget about them.I love them and the v6 they made all there power down low and are a odd ball now.The truck looks good i would primer it black and put some old logo on the doors give it that old rat rod look.I would add power steering to it and see if you can find some bigger brakes for it since all the extra weight you added to it.
