Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
50-Bomb: That looks like a double tap for the Oil Pressure gauge. One side goes to the O.P. gauge itself, the other goes to some other device that also needs to read oil pressure. Idiot light and gauge? Oil Pressure safety switch for an electric fuel pump [kills the fuel pump voltage when OP goes below a specific pressure], maybe?

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
Weird. I have an oil line running to the Original pressure gauge in dash already. So could I just plug that up and it be alright?

Re : Initial Fire Up & Fan Shrouds
Rightly so you're excited ! good job , keep working diligently and you'll soon be rewarded with the best trucks ever made , as it was supposed to be .
me , i'd just unscrew that thing and see what comes out of the hole ~ if oil , install a pipe plug , turn it in by finger then snug it up , pipe threads never bottom out like regular nuts & bolts so not too tight ! . For the other Gentleman , what you're looking for is called a Fan Shroud , unless you're overheating at traffic lights , they're unecessary ~ when i was recently in Death Valley in my L6 C/10 , I had to stop to help an overheated Motocyclist , after maybe 45 minutes idling the gauge reached the 1/2 way point so I took ff driving again , this is how it should be . Fan Shrouds only help @ idle ~ you're far better off removing the stock fan and installing an electric fan with relay , it makes no difference pusher or puller , the relay and wiring it up live , is very important .

@VWNate1;
Hey thanks, but I don't mean an actual fan shroud, I mean that little mini bit of a thing that attaches to the top of the rad support and just kind of hangs out a bit over the top. I would call that a fan guard. Looks about a foot wide and like it's sole purpose is to keep your fingers attached! No overheating problems, just looking to keep things super clean and stock looking under the hood, while she's laid out on the ground. |

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
So I have had no luck finding any brackets for my kicdown cable on the th350. Like I mentioned before I have a inline 250 with the rochester b single barrel carb. I guess they didint make a bracket like most the automatics have on here for this type of setup. Someone told me my year engine had the powerglide and that in 69 the th350 came out for the mono type carbs. So how can I make my own so the transmission works properly when hitting the freeways? I heard from people if you do not have the kicdowon/tv cable/ passing gear cable whatever you call it hooked up to trans to carb that you could mess up your trans and others say that is a lie. I just want to avoid messing my trans up. Workin my butt off with no job or money comin in and really need my own vehicle to drive. Not gonna lie this truck is starting to stress me out haha

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
Did you check GM cars of that era? Olds Omega, Buick Apollo and Pontiac Ventura were the same as Chevy Nova and many had the 250. Camaro and Firebird did as well, but you obviously won't find them in wrecking yards. Many full size Chevy Impala's had a six.

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
i have seen the th350 work just fine with the tv cable un hooked and setting in its hole properly , but if you wanted passing gear just drop it to second gear, but use common sense, dont do it at 100 mph...

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
Th350's do not use a "tv cable". It is a kick down cable only and not hooking it up has no detrimental effect on the trans. Only the 700r4 and 200 4r. I have one of each in a 79 Malibu and 72 Swb step.

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
Well everything seems to be all done with the electrical just gotta see if it all works. If it runs good thaenn I have to do all the brakes next and then I can take this truck out for a test drive for the first time I have owned it for 2 years about. I don't think this truck has been on the road for atleast 8 years. haaa. Oh i am so broke I have to save money for the transmission oil hahaa. GEEZ

Re: ATF
It's a used tranny correct ? .
Did you take the pan off and replace the filter , clean out all that nasty crud ? . Either way , you should fill the tranny up to just over the " full " mark on the dipstick then once it's running and you're checking the timing , properly adjusting the valves (engine running , dig) and then adjusting the carby to the highest steady vacuum signal @ idle , then check the ATF , only add a little bit at a time until it's touching the dipstick but NO MORE as ATF expands as it gets hot by 10 % minimum so it's really easy to overfill it and cause leaks . Keep at it , we're all on the sidelines watching & cheering you on ! .

Re: Post Your Straight Six Pics!
Thanks Nate! Yea I bought some motor oil 10-40 I think i probably should go thicker? Also the transmission was rebuilt a couple years ago and has not seen any miles since rebuilt.
