Re: 1964 GMC 1500 "crustine" semi- build.

Well nothing new to report as of late. I ended up selling the 454 as I was given an offer I couldn't refuse. Especially since I bought it and unloaded it and that was it. haha
I've been just driving Crustine and enjoying it. Got the fabulous 50's show coming up in a couple weeks that I may take the truck to so we'll see. Life has been crazy as always. July sure snuck up on me!

Re: 1964 GMC 1500 "crustine" semi- build.

How's it going folks? Been awhile since I've been on here again. Life's crazy and I've been busy at work and somehow managed to squeeze in a clutch and tranny replace on ol Crustine. Got to the point I couldn't even shift into gear even with it adjusted all the way. SO, ordered a clutch from Napa, pulled the old 4 speed off my 66's 292 and away I went. Did the swap at the shop I work at so it was pretty quick work. Crustine is back on the road shifting smoother and better than ever. The original Sm420 was pretty well shot so having one that actually has synchros is a huge plus. haha

Nice! I bet the new trans makes it nicer to cruise around in

You found a clutch at NAPA? I thought they are unobtainable. Care to share a part number?

Part number is 1104049 and is the 11 inch kit. Does not come with a flywheel and the disc splined nub will have to be ground down so the disc actually seats on the flywheel. Other than that it works great.

Yes sir it sure does! Now to ditch the 4.11 gears for some 3.55's. I'm toying with the idea of 4x4 converting this truck as I have a 77 ford f250 with a high pinion dana 44 front and a dana 60 rear with all the springs and steering. Everything should match up pretty well. Decisions decisions lol

Re: 1964 GMC 1500 "crustine" semi- build.

Spent some of last saturday doing some small stuff to the truck I've been wanting to knock out for awhile. Organized my tool box and installed some trays and a box for holding spare liquids. Also installed my air compressor for some air horns I bought years ago and finally decided to install on the truck.....they aren't To loud.
Now to plumb the air lines and wiring and make some noise. Hopefully the truck doesn't fall apart from the sound waves.

Ah, thanks! - I'd heard you could modify a standard Chevy clutch, was hoping you found a new source for an off-the-shelf solution. But can't argue with your result, and I have an angle grinder

Fur sure on the chevy clutch. Only issue you might run into is sometimes the disc spring plate sticks out to far on either side and might hit the flywheel. Angle grinder is what I used. lol

Re: 1964 GMC 1500 "crustine" semi- build.

Finally started installing my air horns I bought a few years ago. Had 3 trucks at the time and now it was down to my 66 or 64 and Crustine it is. Pretty much down to some wiring and the air line. I'm also gonna install an air hose fitting for the heck of it.

You'll probably need those horns when pulling that camper.

Re: 1964 GMC 1500 "crustine" semi- build.

Well who am I kidding? Like I'm gonna have the time.....well fought with my conscience and won the battle. Picked up this 3/4 ton frame, trans, bell housing, 205 tcase, and coupler for $400 bucks. It is a 77 frame so it's got a 14 bolt in the rear and a 44 up front. In the somewhat near future the plan is to swap Crustine's body onto this frame along with having a 454 mildly built and if I'm lucky an NV4500. The 4 speed will do alright but I want to try and keep the 4.11 gears as I plan to beef up the frame so I can tow my dump trailer and install my goose neck hitch. My dump trailer is rated at 12K load capacity so I'm thinking that might be a tad much for this frame. Later in the future I plan to dually swap in and use a spare set of stepside fenders I have as dually fenders.

Anyhow, life has been crazy and I've had no time to even work on my 66 so we'll see when I get to this. lol I'll be starting a new build thread when I do and this one will be linked in there but no longer updated. As the 4x4 swap will be the new goal.

All for now folks!
