Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"
I spent the other night trying to make sure my wiring was working. I still think I have too many loose ends to have everything work properly. I will have to work on that a little more.
I blasted my brake booster bracket and manifolds yesterday. I also put a coat of POR15 on my manifolds.

Hey did you use tractor fenders for the bed or did you make those?

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"
Finally some pictures that actually look like progress. I roughly put the bed on last night. I couldn't stand them just sitting there in the box teasing me every time I went in the garage. Tried to figure out how much I have to move the wheelwell openings. Realized I need to buy a new front sill in order to mount it properly also.
I am going to try and really hit it hard and get this thing started in the next two weeks. Wish me luck. I picked up a new starter yesterday. Once the manifolds are completely painted I will change the oil hook up the gas line and try to start this beeyatch. I hope it still does what it is supposed to.

Those bedsides look so good on there, nice job Mike. Are you still shooting to try to have it on the road this summer?

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"
Yep....and now my wood sits on top of new lip...that 10" is figured in that....look at your rear bag fittings...that's where u have to have the final clearance....jim

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"
I didn't raise the inside lip of the bedsides. I plan on leaving that where it is and raising the floor similar too what Kyle(screaminchevypickup) did on Lucy. Basically just making a frame out of square tubing, making the tubs fit and laying the wood down. I'm leaving the inside lip where it is so I can still bolt the cross sills down to the frame like the stock floor would.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"
Mike I cut out the inner bedside to clear the tires but I'm not moving the inner lip up like Jim did. I'm leaving it where it is so I can bolt the cross sills down to the frame like a stock application. I just cut some strips of wood to mount between the cross sills and the lip. You can see in the pic how I cut it and also the wood strip between the cross sill and the lip.

Jim, that is the ticket. That is the approach I am more than likely going to take. Are you welding the tubs in or panel bonding them also?

Well it isn't exactly congrats yet. I have it disassembled again. I am waiting on a front cross sill to mount the bed. But Hopefully next weekend I can mount it again.

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"
Start with a 1" by 1/8 flatbar....lots of patience...lol.....will wait to drill right before installing to get right placement...the way these things hang tight, they won't need many flange bolts....here's pic of another i did...tubs not finished but u can see how much better it looks...jim

Re: 1970 SWB : Porterbuilt to the Extreme "Double E"
I actually feel like I accomplished a couple things yesterday. Worked on it until the wee hours of the night.
I mounted the rear frame cross member then mounted the gas tank in its new home. I hooked up the fuel line to the gas tank and installed the float. I took apart my two columns (standard and tilt) to make a good one. I replaced the turn signal control. I also scuffed it and repainted it. I also finished off the body work for the firewall. I am going to get some heavy build primer today and hopefully shoot it this weekend. Then I can mount my new booster, master, and plumb up my brake lines. I can also install my steering column. I still have a goal of starting this darn thing by next week.
