Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"
Not tomorrow....
Fix one problem, find 3 more. It's either running hot or the temp switch is the wrong one. The brakes are dragging and the pedal won't return on it's own the trans isn't acting right either. Got more work to do never-ending....

Now ya know why it sat for so long and the PO didn't want to hassle getting it going. You will be cruising soon bro.

I'm about to the point of taking a break from it. yeah, I'm sure the sitting has been hard on everything. I just hope the trans survives. I don't have the money for a rebuild right now.

Oh, and it doesn't want to idle.
Surges and dies. I hope it's just a dirty/blocked IAC.....

Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"
So rebuild em & sell em, that way the one you keep for yourself is actually free becuase you used the profits of the one you sold. .

Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"
Sounds so easy, doesn't it?
The one in my truck is suppose to have been rebuilt, don't know how long it sat after the rebuild though....

Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"
From what the guy told me it didn't sit that long after the rebuild. Now who knows how he judges time, but I wouldn't say that long.
Just keep your head up man, and plug away at one thing at a time. Sooner or later you would have had to redo everything anyway. So just look at it like you won't have to mess with it later. |

Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"
Thanks John!!
I tried bleeding the master, still the same. Swapped the booster and the brakes are good now. Figured out my thermostat was bad, replaced it. Still showing hot. I went and bought a new temperature switch and compared the resistance. Sure enough the switch was the wrong one. Replaced it, went and got a shroud from pull a part for $8.95, and now it seems to be running nice and cool. I got a bottle of Lucas trans treatment, put it in, and now the trans shifts nice. I also dropped my gas tank and fixed the sender for the gas gauge. Now I have a working fuel gauge. Turns out that my idle problem was from being about out of gas. So guess what?........after getting all those problems resolved today, I'm driving this bad boy took the family (including the dogs cruising) we put around 50 miles on it tonight without a hitch. I love driving this thing!!! Still gotta tie up a few loose ends (ducts in the dash, heat and air controls, trans speedo gear change, and paint some interior trim) oh and I need to transfer the stereo system from the 80 also

Yeah, I'm thinking about flipping the rear and throwing some cut coils in the front. I just don't want it too low.... Edit: After look at my pics again, I think I might just drop the front a couple inches and see how it looks. thanks Scott!!
