Crossmember Drop

I will post pics on hopefully Sunday Night! It is sitting on 15's now with 2 2x4's and still sits the frame. The front will lay out but I dont want to cut anymore of my wheel wells. When I had it all setup on my spare frame it layed the front out with a 28inch tire. I am still waiting for my Bonspeed 20's to come in. Its been a month! I will post soem pics on Sunday, Hopefully.

Has anyone got there tie rods hooked up with the R&P?? I really done want to use the factory tie rods and the sleeves I got from turners. I thought about using a nice aluminum adjuster and a heims joint of some kind at the spinlde. Anyone have any good ideas??

Yes I am installing aluminum tube tierods and heims on my Suburban from the spindles to the stock center link. Just doing this so I can flip them and takes some angle out. Also the stock tierod assemblies were laying on the steering stabilizer and pitman arm. It wouldn't let it lay all the way out. I got my heims and arms from a local dirt car supply shop. You could also contact Speedway Motors, Performance Bodies, or other dirt car shops. Hope this helps you out man. Got mine laying w/ pinch weld 1/2" off ground w/ no bodydrop.

Now my suburban is sitting on 15's there but I have had it sitting on those wheels with 2- 2x4's under it and it still sat the rear bumper. The Bumper is sitting on the ground and wont let it go down more. The front will not go down with those wheels on it. I got stock wheels on it now but haven't taken pics yet. But this should hold you guys over for now.

I got more recent pics but have not download them yet. With those wheels my on it they are sitting on the wheel wells. Since then I have put on stock spare tire wheels on the front. I had to cut up the frontfender alittle bit to get the tire size to fit.

I hope to be notching my xmember and raising my rear notch more this winter. NOw I just need to read through this thread. There is a little tech article about this in Street Trucks this month and they made it sound like it would be hard to get 2" of drop by notching so I am going to have to check into that a little more. I want 2" and I am not afraid to fabricate.

EDIT: After reading the whole thing, I may consider the 1.5" chop. I will see when I get in there.

Well I got back to work on mine. I got the center tacked back into place & it's ready for trial fitting to the frame. If everything aligns as it should, I hope to have it welded up within the next couple of weeks.

I wish AirRide would get off their ass & decide whether they're going to build the tubular arms for 63-87's. I guess there aren't many of these year trucks running around (wink, wink).

Well... they were to be available 'early spring'..... what is early spring? Last I spoke w/'Darren' @ AirRide which was a few weeks ago, they haven't even started on them yet.

I have no issues with the bag mounts at all. The plate style or cup style upper can be used. The cup style will allow the truck to sit a little lower as the bag moves into the member more vs the plate.

Couldn't you just notch the bottom of the front X-member about 1-2" to move the mounting point of the factory lower control arms up?

After doing what I did to my truck to get it much lower than it was before, I still need about 1/2-1" in the front to lay the rocker on the ground. My Lower Control arms are the lowest thing in the front, so they hit first. If I just notched the X-member where they mount (without modifying the rest of the X-member would that work? Wouldn't mess up the geometry any would it?

I'm determined to get my truck all the way down on 27" tire in the front without body dropping and without going to tubular a-arms.

Gonna be working on it this week, but wheel tubs and new mufflers, not the X-member, but may start doing some measuring while I got it up on jack stands to see what can be done to get an extra 1" down.

I dont know if the 73+ frame to body is the same as 67-72, but if they are...you won't lay body without minor body drop...if your frame is laying on the ground...the body will be about 3/4" off the ground....this is what I am dealing with now.....is it worth all the extra BS for that extra 3/4 inch to "lay body" on my 72?.....hmmmm
