Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Then I had to make a bracket to hold the gauges in place ...in this pic I dont have the bracket on the fuel gauge yet...I've got to pick up some 10-32 screws and nuts to finish..
Had to open up the back of the panel to squeeze all the gauges in there...

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

And this is the finished product...(fuel gauge just sitting in the space in pic...itll drop down a little)
I'm going to send it off to a dash restoration guy in South Carolina...he's gonna rebuild the speedometer and reprint all the numbers and wording...all gauge needles will be painted orange as well...
he's also gonna reface the new gauges to look like the old ones (2nd pic)I pulled out

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Got the hydroboost squared away...my original plan was to use a 3/4" spacer between firewall plate and the hydroboost....i was trying to keep it as compact as possible.. ..there was never any way that would work...the IH brake pedal is very close to the firewall and the hydro has a long snout on it...I tried several ideas but finally gave in and made a 2in thick aluminum spacer...so that worked....I also got the flex lines and such installed....no moonshine still coils in the brake lines..(there you go Doug)....had the option of running dual front lines from the proportioning valve to each front wheel...or plug one port and run a single line down and T it on the frame...I went with option 2......
to cold to do much so it can wait till later....
now to get the hoses for the hydro...plan is to use -6an stainless flex and build my own.....gotta figure out what size metric to -an fitting I need....
painted the master cylinder with Eastwood master cylinder paint...supposed to be resistant to brake fluid...so we'll see...

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Hey, I am missing two flex lines...ok, kidding. Great idea to get rid of the still. Wonder if I can block one of the ports for the front? Hmm..

Nice work on the adapter too. Why did it need to be 2” thick?

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

I didn't think youd miss 2 of em...hahaha....you only had about 40 left over
the 2in spacer was needed because of the longer snout and pushrod on the hydroboost..

I do have about a lifetime supply of flex hoses. Thanks for the explanation on the thicker mount!

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Before ,,I had thought about using -6an fittings and hoses for my hydroboost...after a lot of looking I couldn't find anything that would work with the angles of the hydro fittings...so I thought I'd try some factory hoses and see if they would work...well amazingly they fit like a glove..these hoses are for a 81 c30....had to tweak them just a touch but I'm happy with how they worked out....they had to order the other hydro return line so I'm waiting on that...and I'm adding a power steering cooler and that's on back order...once I get these the steering and brakes should be squared away....

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

Also another project semi-done...after agonizing over how to make the clutch work I finally decided to just use hydraulic...so I got the wilwood master and slave setup with remote reservoir ...I wanted to keep as much of the original clutch setup as possible ...I considered linkages and also cable setups....the issues I was trying to overcome was trying to turn upward force into rearward motion in a very small space....I made a mounting bracket from 3/8 flat plate for the slave side...still have to fab a mount for the master...
Here's some pics of master and slave and the slave mount..yeah...I believe in overkill... got it sprayed down with some black paint and it's good to go.....

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

That is great the factory lines fit for the hydro-boost. Sometimes the solution is right there for us, and I wouldn’t have thought of considering factory lines.

Yes, 3/8” plate oughta hold that! Nice bracket. Well done.

thanks Doug...I went and measured the ones on my c30 so I knew going in those hoses might work...so I knew that option was a possibility....turns out it was

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

all right..1st off ..don't laugh at my engineering...
I finally got all the fittings in for the hyd clutch setup..
im needing to figure out the pedal to clutch release ratio..
this is all I could come up with...
I made a TEMPORARY bracket for the master cylinder....the clutch rod hooks to the arm out front..the lifting action will push in on the master cyl....
I made the brackets with lots of adj holes so I can move the master up or down the "ladder" and change the ratio of the pedal until I get it where I like it....once I find the sweet spot I WILL build a new bracket that I promise will look better than this conglomeration....

Greg, nothing to laugh at there. That is a seriously good idea that took a lot of effort to find the best ratio configuration. Very cool, very impressive!

Re: Columbus..the 1957 IH 4x4..

well thanks Doug.....I started to not even show this cause it looked so hokey..but I figured what the heck....the final version will be much better...
I talked to wildwood to try and get a idea of how much travel the master pushrod would have to move, to get the slave to move (x) distance....they had no idea ...so it was up to me to figure it out

That looks great! I like the idea a lot although I would have probably made it with wood - yours is much better!
