Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Went to a somewhat local car show today. Wandered around a bit. They had about 100 cars. We didn't bring a hot rod. We drove our 20 Mustang GT vert. It was a perfect day for a convertible ride around the lakes.

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Brought home a old friend on Friday. My grandparents had this 61 Impala when I was growing up while in middle and high school. It was a identical twin to a 61 that my grandpa ordered brand new in 61 and then dated my grandmother in it, sold it when they got married to have extra money to get on their feet. (Stuck a scanned old photo of the original car)

Well fast forward to today, we lost my grandmother a year ago and my grandpa was wanting to get the 61 back, was able to get in touch with the guy they sold it to a decade ago and he actually still had it and was ready to let the car go. So we sold some spare stuff, pooled our money together and got the car back. Needs a little TLC as the car has pretty much sat in the garage the last decade, but nothing crazy.

Beautiful car.
I had a '62 SS, Aqua on Aqua driver for a while. Never had the funds or time to bring it a decent restored level and sold it 2 years ago to fund my '67 Camaro restoration. Yep, was sad to see it go and regret it, but I made good progress on the Camaro for awhile.
The pic of your Grandpa's original car with the 4 bars and wide whites was the hot ticket back then. He was livin' the times. Glad he has you and the car to spend time with now.

We had to pay a little more, but still way under what the going rate these cars are selling for and the guy had done quite a bit of maintenance work on it, so it wasnt bad still. Couldnt let the car slip away as we know its a super good car. Only reason they sold it was to finish the 56 Chevy custom we still have.

Ill get them later, I've been prepping my truck for Goodguys this weekend so I have not gotten to do any cleaning yet on it and it needs it badly from sitting for most of the last decade. It is a 348 tri power, 4 speed car. Only thing not stock under the hood is the little chrome louvered air cleaners on the carbs and the aftermarket booster and dual master cylinder for the disc brakes. Pretty much looks exactly like this pic of the 61 my grandpa ordered new. He took the big stock air cleaner and chucked it of course. Interior is all stock and original. I am pretty confident the car is a legit Super Sport car as it has everything they came with, in the right spots, and the dash never got the cross flags on the passenger side that the non super sport cars got. Also built in the right time frame and is a true big block 4 speed car.

Nice!
I think the 60, 61 and 62 were the best looking Impalas ever made IMHO

but honestly they dont work either. i have one brake light and nothing else at all.

fun fact, the turn signal switch is on the right of the steering wheel. they had not standardized it on the left in 1972!

This is the first time we have ever gone. My Son in Law works for Pepsi and gets free tickets to a lot of events that they sponsor. Quite an experience is all I can say.

I got my KLR running. It has had carb problems for some time. I finally got a rebuild kit and took care of business. It's fun to ride again

Re: What did you do today not on your truck...

Been working on the new 61 impala last couple weeks. Flushed and replaced all the fluids and filters. Found a A arm bushing has disappeared. The bolt had backed out at some point and fell out with the washer and then the rubber had worked its way out leaving the two metal pieces. So pulled that corner of the suspension apart and got new bushings pressed in. Did some diagnostic's on the motor. Found a few weak cylinders after a compression check, one head has worn guides as it sometimes puffs smoke on start up. So gave it a little tune up and then drove it out and cleaned out the carbon on some back roads and it is running better, but the winter project now will be pulling the 348 for a rebuild, but its ok for the last month or two of summer here.

Took it out to its first meet on Saturday for a local cars and coffee and then to a buddies birthday party/car show. Rides and driver super, will be really good next spring after going through the 348.
