Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"
Lookin' good there man. You still looking for a factory tint rear glass of some sorts? I looked the other day and then forgot about it. My junker 'burb does appear to have factory tint, let me know if you want a photo or something. You could have it if you came and pulled it.
But it has rear air, so the A/C lines you need I don't got. OR! you could put rear air in the crew. Just think, 110 outside and the cab of your truck is a nice 65, front and back! |

Thanks for joining in! Yeah I need a passenger rear door roll-up factory privacy glass. Sounds like a heck of a deal, I'm not sure when I will be up in the Tulsa area. But if I end up that way I will let you know. That would be some super cooling capability just thinking out loud, but I wonder if it would be possible to cap the lines going to the rear A/C.

Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"
If nothing else you could cut the extra one off and tig it shut. I think.
We were going to save all the A/C stuff for my helpers 79 build. But I'm fairly certain these lines would be useless to him unless he uses the serpentine setup. I know the lines are all still R12, seems it had never been converted. The unit was still all hooked up, but it had zero charge in it. When I removed everything I did tape up the ends, just in case. I'll be certain no matter what I don't let the right rear glass go anywhere. Heck I'll save both back doors if you want them. Not sure what you'd do with them, but I have nothing they'll fit and know the demand for them is very small, so resale is nothing that would really happen for me. |

Nothing like a little perseverance to get through and make it come together. Enjoy cruising(instead of cursing) that thing Joe!!!

I'll have to plan a road trip up there soon to meet up with you. Maybe we can get a small group of us together. I'll see if there are any guys down here that wanna cruise up Rt. 66 with me Quote:
I've probably put over 100 miles on her with no problems. I'm not sure exactly how many miles since I need to change speedo gears. I think I might need to swap rear gears also, I'm not sure what gears I have, but they seem pretty high. But I'll tell you one thing, I love driving it. The TBI is awesome! All the little stuff works, and it rides really nice. I have many more things I need to do to it, but they can be weekend projects while I use it as my DD

I may be up for that. We went up to Pop's Saturday night, and were discussing a road trip up 66 to Tulsa, or even to Joplin. I know KultureKat said there were some cool things up around Joplin to see. |

Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"
still ain't blowing any cold air
yeah I ended up buying a new one. Got it in, pulled a vacuum, but was unable to get it to take a charge. I got oil and one can of 134 in and it wouldn't take any more. I gave up on it Saturday night and haven't messed with it since.

Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"
Did you put a new drier on it? Spring is over (was a nice 2 weeks while it was here!) and time for the heat to rule. A/C is a must

Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"
Hey Randy,
I did put on a new drier. The drier, condenser, and orfice tube are all new. I Also had a hose made that goes from the evaporator to the condensor. I talked to the guy I work with who owns the gauges and vacuum pump, he seems to think that the low pressure port isn't opening fully with the gauges connected. Gives me something else to check.

Re: My Crew Cab Short Bed Project, AKA "Project Destiny"
You used adapter fittings for the R134? I was wondering how well they work on our trucks? What if you left the gauges off until you get a couple cans in there? Also, how did you get the R12 oil out the compressor? I have to do this same conversion on my son's truck.
