Re: My '59 Apache
Thanks Kim! Today I pulled the yoke off and seal. The seal was shot as expected. I ordered a new yoke , seal and u-bolts(instead of straps) but won't be here until next week. So I'm putting the brakes back together in the meantime. And cleaning/organizing the garage again
I'm ok! Posted via Mobile Device

Deep breath, exhale thru nose, repeat. Go for a ride on your bike. Luckily the seal and yoke can be replaced without having to redo the whole pinon/ring settings.

Re: My '59 Apache
D'ne,
I went with the ZR2 S10 rear end. It is an 8.5" posi, 3.73 gear, 4.75" pattern, disc brake with e-brakes, 63" wide rear. I got it for 275.00 plus 95.00 shipping from S10warehouse on eBay. It is perfect for a V8 truck. |

I would pull the cover to see what he really did. Better to know now then to find out on your test drive.

Re: My '59 Apache
Well, I'll keep this in mind about that rear end you've told me about. If I can at least get a few miles (if any) out of this rear end~ I'll be ok. I put my new yoke and new seal~ the truck is on the ground finally (again) and the stance of the rear is what I expected, a little lower, but still looks nice. I hope tomorrow to be left alone so I can get more accomplished~ I'm the most popular gal in town! Wouldn't you just love to lose your cell phone for a day; amazes me how much time I spend on the damned thing!
dne' Itstheshu~ I know I should have pulled the cover, but let's just see what happens. Quote:

Does this look OK?
Hi, just got the truck outside to snap a pic~ there's no wood in the bed, nor bumper~ does the stance look OK? I know it will go lower as time goes on, breaking in the springs n such. I guess I can always put some spacers in the back if it settles too low. I haven't installed the shocks yet, I hate to open another box of shocks then be stuck with another set!
dne' Posie's in the front and in the back.

Re: My '59 Apache
it's noticeable but when you look at the over all stance of the truck it looks good. If it was me, I'd bring that front end down 2 " for a bit of rake, but I like the way it looks now.

I agree with dubie, looks good but a bit lower in the front would help.

Re: My '59 Apache
I don't know how I would make it lower in the front without a bunch of work and buying more parts. It has the dual leaf spring posies in the front. I have the 2" spacers for the rear, I may put them back in and see how it looks.

Re: My '59 Apache
The rockers are parallel with the ground, the opening above the front tire to fender opening gives the illusion of it raking up at the front. Might also look at lower profile tires on the front, those look like 70 series. Going to a 60 series will reduce the diameter almost 2 inches. going from 70 to 50 series reduces the diameter 3.7" I have a set of excel files I made for 15-22 in diameter wheels with 215 to 355 width and .85 to .50 aspect ratios so I could look at width and diameter combos. If anyone is interested message me with an email address and I can send them. Also FWIW my daughter and I are going to look at a 64.5 mustang tonight. We restored a 67 together when she was in high school (20+ years ago) and she is now in a place she wants to get another one.

Re: My '59 Apache
I would bet the front leaves will lose more arch than the rears do. Drive it before you give up on the stance. We were constantly re-arching leaf springs when we dirt track raced. And they were only a few weeks old when they started losing their arch.

Denee, we pulled the trigger, 65 289 4v (A code), Luxury trim, we are third owner. Factory air, C4 trans. Two small rust spots on the lower doors, never wrecked. Poor repaint will need redone, but has all the trim and misc. parts. Daughter is floating 10' above the ground.

Re: My '59 Apache
Orrie, that's a great looking Mustang!!! Good for her(and you)! I wish my girls had a little interest in what I do. So it needs paint, but how far do y'all plan to go with it?
Papastrk, I think I'll get some measurements of the ride height, hold off installing the shocks on the rear. Give it a little time to "settle". I did notice that the front tires are 78's? Today I'm going to ride around the neighborhood (still no exhaust except for headers with an extension. Then pull the mustang out, move my center maxjax out of the way, remove the seat out of the truck and look at installing the carpet. The wood for the bed will be the last detail, I will have questions about installing the wood bed in the near future. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: My '59 Apache
Looks great Denee. I agree that I wouldn't mess with the springs until you drive it a bit and let things settle.
I haven't seen a set of 78 series tires in a long time. Keep up the progress - must be nice to drive it even if it just down the driveway.

Hello Denee007, It's great that you can get your truck out for a little drive. It looks good out in the open. The funs not over yet.

carpet installed!
Darn it was HOT today! Luckily, I put my Mustang outside and pulled the truck inside and worked in a cooler environment! The carpet installation was a little more tedious than I thought it was going to be, mainly due to the gas pedal and steering column floor bolts. I work alone, so a small pair of vice grips came in handy. Overall I guess it wasn't that bad.
I didn't get to drive it though, the carpet took most of the day. As far as that 78 tire dmack, there's only one tire that has that, and it's on the right front. When I bought the truck, one tire was shot and discount tire gave me a tire. At that time I didn't care what kind of tire it was; just needed to get it rolling! I took measurements of the stance as it is measured from middle of fender opening to the floor: Front Right: 29.5" P235/78 (oddball tire) Front Left: 30" P235/70 Right and left rear: 26 3/8" with P235/70's As for the steering wheel which came out of an Impala, I may just get a nice wrap to tie the color into the scheme of things. Otherwise, I'm pleased the way my cab is looking Eventually I'll get a nice steering wheel. Thanks everyone! dne'
