Re: Rustbuket 67 build "Georgia"

Looking good, Dan. I read your previous post about going back to school in case the economy tanks. Good idea! Just take it one step at a time. When I decided to go back to school to finish my undergraduate, I thought it would never end.

I actually got a little bit motivated today. Did some minor prep work, then got distracted by checking something on our everyday vehicle, then went back to work on my carburetor. I will post some details on my page. It's not much, but it's a start.

The Topps powder coating looks nice. We went to a home show recently, and I found a local guy that does powder coating for automotive parts. Not sure what, if anything I want powder coated just yet, but I might end up paying him a visit for something.

Powder coating is sweet. When I first started my truck one of my neighbors from across the street came to check it out. Before he left he said, oh by the way you do know I'm a powdercoater don't you? I did not know that, then he told me just bring anything I want to him and he'll take it in to work and throw it in the pile. I never did take him up on it, partially because I was trying purposely not to make my truck too nice, but a great offer none the less.

Thanks D, good to see you getting back to the truck. I haven't had much time to work on mine or get on here too much lately. Wish I had more money, I would have everything powder coated!

Thanks man, I remember reading that on your thread. That is crazy pricing but I guess it is not as common waaay up there. Only $125 for the frame and front crossmember blasted down here. I love your trucks

Thanks, I prefer the powder but my wallet disagrees sometimes. Sounds like a good deal you have there. I don't want mine to be too nice either, not a show truck just a fun good looking driver. I have a connection for powder coating too but it is only one color "champagne" uh brown. Yuck!

Here are a few pics of my powdered parts. Hopefully I can get some garage time during spring break and get most of this stuff installed. This is the color I picked "anodized aluminum", looks like late model wheel color. a little different than argent rally wheel but close. I like it!

Time for bed...

Had some axle U bolts made locally at a semi truck parts/repair place. Any locals wanting to know it is Fleetpride 9300 W Reno, Okc. Almost in Yukon. My Iphone lied to me said they were between meridian and macarthur. It is not. Anyway $36 out the door. Bring an old one in for them to duplicate and be done in 5 minutes. made in the USA

Re: Rustbuket 67 build "Georgia"

Installed my Energy suspension trailing arm bushings. I do not like the end piece. It is like one long control arm bushing with a collar that goes over the other side. Well the collar does not fit well because it interferes with the existing bushing shell and you have to squeeze the piss out of it to get them into the trailing arm mount. Waaaah!

Thanks Dylan, I saw a few others with the same color combo on their chassis and thought it looked awesome. I had to do it even though no one will see it when the body is back on. I am sure you are familiar with the disease where I just keep going out in the garage and pulling back the drop cloth to stare at it It looks soooo nice!

Haven't been on much lately, I will check up on you brother.

Definitely cool I always love seeing trucks with chassis accents because it shows how thorough the owners really are on their look. I'm definitely considering more color than black on the underside of my truck whenever it becomes a frame off truck some century and yes I'm familiar I had the same disease when my father was painting my truck last summer

No problem I'm not doing much major at this point on my truck just tinkering getting small things fixed that I've neglected

Re: Rustbuket 67 build "Georgia"

Ordered some Seymour Cast Blast paint from summit for the u bolts, cross shafts, and exposed part of the ball joints.

After digging my front coils out and realizing how poor they looked I ordered some 1" front drop coils from brothers. On sale of course for $88 Looks like my final stance will be 3.4/5 drop. I really want it LEVEL with 0 rake but I guess we will see how it sits once assembled.

Now if the weather would cooperate I could paint a few little pieces and have a rolling chassis.

Also have a 7 hole cluster in my possession and a 97 S10 speedo on the way for a top secret project

I painted my U bolts and bolted together the rear suspension. It went together well so I threw on some rusty drums and bolted up the rear wheels. I have half a roller now Nevermind the old diff cover and dust.

Thanks Gdavis, Yeah all moving parts are powder coated silver. If I were to change anything I would have painted the frame a satin black. Gloss black is a pita!! Congrats on all the work you have done to yours, it looks great!

I will start on the front suspension tomorrow and hopefully get it together by the end of the weekend.

The specs so far...

5" rear drop coils from Brothers Trucks
Porterbuilt fully adjustable track bar
20x10 ???? Budnik Famosa. got them used haven't had the bald tires off to measure yet.
275/35/20 currently, look a little too small, I will go with a 295/40/20 when I get the funds.
