Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

So following yesterday’s post, there were recommendations to add strength to the mounting plate of the light fitting.

So I added some weld to the sides.

And made some gussets up.

Drilling holes to add to the look.

Ready

Enough welding.

Doubtful if it would give up in any weather.

Flap disc, tidy enough for 12 foot up in the air.

Fitting machined into the post.

Mounting post drilled and ready to take retaining screws.

Next up, paint for the post, and the inside of the shade, brushed on gloss for the post, white spray paint for the inside of the shade.

Painted.

Last dilemma was what colour to do the outside of the shade.

Traditionally they are green, but red does exist.

@pauly and @Craigrk were not helpful...... Sally said red, but she likes red, and she is a girl after all.

In the end I decided on red, because why be traditional.

Yes, certainly it looks like red.

So there you have it by 7.30 painting was done, it may take a few days to dry properly.

Chilly tonight, by the time I shut shop it had dropped down to 4’C

Usually PaulY only visits when it drops below 6’C

Must get the kettle on.

I think the red is a great color choice on the light. It will look good in its new surroundings

In retrospect the red is right Bill.

May be that I have the right one.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

I know we have a fair amount of carnivores here, Fresh biltong, Collected yesterday.

Got some biltong from a local-ish maker/supplier (Biltong Cottage on FB) or contact me for details. She will ship as well at a cost, I tend to collect mine.

I still make my own as well, but know the cost in time and meat vs a good deal.

Bought a kilo of original and 500g of chilli which is really good.

As a personal gift, her husband gave me a bottle of Mrs Balls Chutley ( no, I am not going to try to explain that)

After painting the lamp shade, and leaving it down in the garage overnight, the next morning I found it super tacky and clearly not drying.

So I bought it indoors and have had it balanced in the small office oil radiator in the kitchen.

24 hrs later, it is now nice and dry, probably needs a n]bit more time to really dry and for the paint to go hard.

One other job that I have looked forward to has been getting the very large compressor from the garage and into its own space next to the carport.

The @pauly annex.

Lifted with my Jack, and wheeled in two wheels at a time.

Decided to paint the mount for the light red as well.

The white paint, though sold as gloss for metal, is water based, and not successful.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

So the lampshade seemed to respond well to the small heater under it.

Paint has dried to the point where it does not mark or dent, though I am sure you could scratch it off with your finger nail

So I fetched in the mounting bracket and a plank on which to place it for painting and drying, and proceeded to paint it red as well, despite planning white originally.

Done, mounted, now wait for it to dry over the next day or so.

Went to the garage agin, and fished out the last bit of the green and redid the edge of the shade, separating the red and white with a narrow band of green.

I do like that, and from the ground it should look good.

While at that, I mounted the Chevrolet sign I got from Darren a few years ago. It had lived indoors after being painted.

From a distance, up on the beam.

Nothing spectacular, but I certainly feel that I like it.

Bit of a theme coming out of here now.

Morning Bill, you are up early for a Sunday.

Yes, I am happy so far.

Next step is 4 steel cabinets on the weekend for the 19th December.

They will form a rear wall and storage, plus two at 1.5 meter tall to go next to the door.

Right team.

LED Strip/Ribbon lighting.

Today’s technical question is around the parts needed, and effective fitting of LED ribbon lights.

I have an idea, and it needs to be done.

Using LED strip light, to look like Neon lighting from a,distance at the top of the carport structure.

Specifically the red board only, I contemplated the upright posts in red or green, but then it may end up being too Christmassy.

I seen you can but 5 meters of non waterproof strip for as little as Ł6.00 from,China, up to local, waterproof strip from Essex for Ł14.00

This excludes transformer, connectors etc. I do have a nice 12 volt transformer in the garage, waiting for a job.

So this is the red board, either on the lower edge, or even behind or just below the roof sheets, but I think behind makes more sense.

Advice,,tips, links, experience, guidance appreciated

I have not been to my local TLC electrical wholesaler yet.

Thanks.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Goose neck light.....

Fitted !!

It may not look like it is in the middle, but it is in the middle of the front 6.6 meter facade.

I like the position in which it will be throwing light as well.

Over in the USA Dennis and stepson (treated like own sone) Bryan were lifting the golf kart that they bought for 7 year old Skyler at their new property.

Nice for running around on a piece of farm land.

Halfway there, rear lift next, then take the body panels to Dennis’ body shop and get it painted up, kid has already said no pink no more, rather silver.

Look forward to seeing the result.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Beaver Moon.

Gas pump globe arrived today.

Ł32.00 delivered, Black Friday half price offer.

Much better size, and real white in my opinion its a win.

Branding, name and star still needs to be hand painted, and hopefully paint dries, and then wired up.

I plan on placing it on a small plinth, to raise it between 20mm and 50mm

Long overdue.

Now here’s the thing......

I did not read the whole ad for the globe.

I just wanted a fuel pump globe.

On delivery it seems I got more than I thought I was buying.

Loads of colour options, and rechargeable too.

Well....

Old habits do die hard.

Bought some meat this weekend.

Really missed having some of my own made Chilli beef Biltong (almost like Jerky, but not)

Got a large box.

Made some bits up

Created a cover, drilled a large hole.

Fitted

Than made about 30 sharpened meat hooks.

Unpacked, washed, trimmed, sliced, salted, vinegar washed, spiced the meat,

Almost 5kg I guess.

Hooks all fitted through.

And hung up in the drying box, light turned on and box sealed after positioning.

Let’s see how this lot dries out.

Did I mention it is non traditional chilli/garlic?

Should be good.

PS:

Kelly at Ethyls was asking Bryan when I was returning.

Seems COVID-19 has screwed up their lives too......

But not too much for her not to still mess with my head.

Looking forward to the next time @craigrk and I get to go over there.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Post man/woman delivered the waterproof LED light ribbon today.

Will take some time over the weekend to dig out the transformer I have stashed away, hopefully it is a DC converter.

May even get time to mount this up on the carport too.

Sunset at 15.50 was pretty spectacular too.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Having a day job, rubbish weather and life in general can all get in the way of a good story.

Another small job done today on the Rezin Rockit build process during my “lunch hour” break .

We had a load of rain and some snow early in the morning.

Driveway temperature was 4’C when I was getting this done, chilly.

As much as I dislike this whole Corona virus and how it has turned our worlds upside down, I am massively thankful for still having a job that I can do successfully from home, despite it not being very rewarding as the old way was. BUT...... my daily commute of a minimum of 60 miles or 100km taking me a minimum of two hours, means that one can add a bit of travel time to your own agendas.

So today I needed to move a 3/4 ton bag of sharp sand from under the carport to behind the garage.

Also some 25kg bags of building gravel and more bags of kiln dried sand.

Opening up some space.

For the Rezin Rockit as originally planned.

So getting it through here between the caravans.

Managed that, with a 3 ton jack under the rear differential and some careful force.

Resulting in it getting reversed into position so that I can get to it for some of the preparation work.

So in a way I have made it to one of the goals set originally

A dry workspace for the future.

Still needs more work to be done and some weatherproofing.

Oh, and it is the weekend.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Happy to report that day 2 3/4 looked like this.excess spices brushed off.

Chopped a bit off the tip in the garage and tried it.

Absolutely lovely

Brought two thin strips indoors to keep tasting....l

This one has great fat distribution as well.

Did a load of odd jobs around the garage, but it was unpleasant and by 3.00pm it was down to 5’C and I gave up.

Managed to do a tiny job on the Rezin Rockit as well.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

So having posted the last two pics I did of the biltong at day 3, I was questioned about how didgusting my second pic looked.

Striated fat makes it incredibly tasty.

Now modern man avoids fat often.

However, in biltong the fat is certainly cherished, either as in the first pic, or mixed into a cut batch.

I like the fat as it counters the dried nature of the beef.

Moist is how I like it.

Some people do not.

And of course you could have it quite dry and without any fat.

This is how my local supplier dispatches their biltong.

They will post/ship at cost to you anywhere you are.

Down as Biltong Cottage on Facebook or call the mobile number on the packaging.

Thanks Rian for contributing to Kim and my Toy Drive. It was good to see Adam and meet his bride but we really missed you guys this year. Pass our appreciation along to Martin and Craig please.

Hi Clem,

Thanks for checking in.

The least those of us who are in a better place can do, it to help with this effort to make some kids lives a whole lot better.

It was really quite unfortunate that we have all had our movements curtailed in 2020.

But through technology and friendships, PayPal delivered for us all remotely.

I would love to see people continue to support and contribute to your Toy Run, to make a difference.

And they can, by sending you a PM or even buying online from the likes of Walmart and requesting delivery directly to Tubatrucks.com

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Lights

Camera

Action.......

Removed the light unit,

Nicely sealed in.

I suspect this could be put in a pool or pond too.

Really well made bit of kit.

Tried it out, ultra bright.

Then took the actual globe down to the garage and fitted it on its little plinth.

Liking that.

Then later a test to see what it looks like with a lamp inside.

I am very pleased.

Once all the lighting is sorted, it should look neat.

While I was down there, I pulled out a 1800mm length of scrap ply and grabbed the jigsaw, a pencil and square.

Made a cross

Mickey popped over to ask for help getting onto Facebook, I love how he just grabs technology when needed and gets on with it.

Then glued the side wings on using 50mm strips of off-cut and a length of railway line used to put pressure on it all.

Next step will be to use the LED from the globe, mounting it centrally, either behind a stylised heart or on its own, and to use it as a Christmas decoration in the window.

Weekend over again.

Re: Grizz's Redneck Express 1966 Chevy Short Fleetside RESTO-GO!

Well....

Mickey is a traditional Christmas decorator..... when his lights go on, the national grid blinks and then dims.

I do not do this sort of thing, but thought I would add a Christian slant to it all.

Out of the clamp.

Fitted the colour changer, it can still be charged and turned on and off, as well as selecting the mode, pulse, fading, changing etc.

Testing in the kitchen.

And hung up in the spare room window.

I am absolutely in two minds, not sure if it suits my more subtle taste.

Wonder what Mickey will make of it.

That is a bright light.
Mickey will want one for his place.
