Well, she's not a museum piece and gets used as what I call a "semi-daily" driver. It gets driven to work on occasion, but never in salt these days. It sees regular duty as a tow vehicle. Until 1997 or 98, it was the only vehicle I had. It was around that time that I bought a "salt car". Now that I'm back out of the "salt belt", I traded up from a "salt car" to a Jeep as a second vehicle. It sees use as the daily driver. I must admit that Jeeps are loads of fun!

For security, the keyless entry system has an integrated starter interrupt that kills the starter unless unlocked with the keyless entry system. This was an easy installation since the truck came with factory power door locks. Added security comes from not living in an urban environment, a good neighborhood watch, a Shepherd X security system named Sandy (grrr!), and from the Suburban body style itself. The 6-CD player is a stealth installation and out of sight. I still have the '86 factory stereo in it even...

I do take the truck up to the All-GM Nationals every year. She still shines up pretty well... (June 2003)

i love posts where people post their ride, there are so many people with fine C/K trucks that I'm encouraged to keep hope that eventually I'll have Ol Red lookin that good. Rock on Guys!

I can, I did. My round trip to work is 44 miles. Wife is stay at home mom. She and I swapped cars.

She had bought a little Accord to replace her 79K5 because it had more doors. I bought a 88 454 Sub to replace a Supra because I needed something to tow the camper with. When gas prices went up we swapped. I drive the 31mpg Accord that basicly paid for itself in gas savings. She drives the Burb.

I sometimes drive the 75 to work mostly just to keep it in working order and run the gas down so it doesn't get stale. Now the 75 is for sale. 86 4Runner to replace it and be DD. Wife will get Honda back and Burb will sit except when we need to tow or we need the room.

I've used my truck as a daily driver for years but I have started going to school in a city 30 miles away. 30 miles*3 times a week/10mpg = broke. We were GIVEN a 76 Honda Civic CVCC Station wagon for my brother. It has 60,000 original miles! He can't drive yet so I'm using it to get 30mpg. It is the ugliest car on the planet, even uglier than the Aztek. But It works. Makes me smile everytime I jump in my truck now - I remember just how much joy driving a truck brings me.

76sierraclassic, that is VERY nice and clean, i wish mine was that clean but it is a work truck for now until i get more time/money to get it a new paint job.

everyone else has such nice rides, proud to be a GM owner

I like those old Hondas! The 2 door looks better, of course.

mine isnt a daily driver, yet. it actually in a million pieces. originally my plan was to make a trail rig out of itm but plans have changed. rather than the 1 ton axles, crossover steering, hydro clutched 4 speed, and 40" tires, i've decided to go with a bit milder 3/4 ton axles, standard front to back steering, 700R4/241, and 35 x 12.5s. should make a nice driver. just need to add power locks and power windows and she'll be fully loaded.

Out of the axles isnt the front one the only thing changing as far as alxes? Arent the rear 3/4 ton and 1 ton axles the same?

That depends on what your calling 3/4 and 1 ton axles. I believe what he means is that he was going to use a FULL FLOATING rear axle instead of the more common SEMI-FLOATING rear axle. Either kind can be found on 3/4 and or 1 ton GM's. If you get an axle off of a 1 ton rig they have a narrower frame so the spring pads would be closer together and would have to be ground off and new ones welded on in the correct spacing for 3/4 - 1/2 ton frame.

3/4 and 1 ton rear axles are the "same" mechanically, the 1 tons have narrower perches.
