You mean they are not supposed to do this??? Mine has done this since the day I got it....but I won't even go into the 'engineering' that I have found in the wiring all over my truck...LOL. Let's just say a fire extingusher is a manditory 'option' in my cab...heh heh heh...........

It is grounded through the printed circuit board. You will have to pull the cluster. The screws that hold the board to the back of the cluster will have a little copper ring around them. Take the screws out, and carefully with a wire brush polish them up along with the base of the screws. Take out the bulbs and do the same. I did this along with running a little insurance with another wire going to the cluster tied to a good ground fixed this same problem. While you have it out look at the circuit board for any breaks in the copper in the ground curcuit. It will be the only one that goes to ALL lights and screws that I mentioned. If it is broke get a new board or run jumper wires from each section of the instrument panel.

My PO had a 5th wheel hitch mounted in the bed of a 1/2 ton SWB?! The bed was damaged and repaired by drilling holes, slapping bondo on, covering with masking tape to smooth the bondo because he didn't want to sand it, then painting it. and OF COURSE the wiring is f@&ked.

I've had a house light switch controlling the heater. duct tape holding the fresh air vents shut, house shag carpet, expandable foam rust repair, one owner definitely liked to braze....lol

My 72 has absolutely no rigging from previous owners. All gauges worked excpet thew temp gauge. I have put in a decent set of mechanical gauges so I don't care about them anyway. Only problem it has electrically is the left turn signal light comes on and stays on when the lights are on. I know its a ground being bad and feeding back, but the turn signals work fine so I'm not going to worry about it, its just a work truck. Mine still has the radio delete plate installed and looks to never had a radio installed anywhere else. All the wiring looks factory. The engine was very clkean inside but the cam had one flat lobe and two more half gone and the timing chain was flopping around and the gears had bad wear marks from the chain. I know its all original to, numbers match and the only thing that appears to have been removed on the engine was the intake. Don't know why, maybe to replace a lifter after it flatened a lobe the first time and the owner didnt want to replace a cam. It did run ok like that but had a tapping noise.
I have worked as a mechanic so I have seen all kinds of crap like posted above. House switches in cars, vise grips over a brake line to seal it off since the owner didnt want to fix a rusted line or wheel cylinder, house wires to install whatever, screws or whatever else they could find to plug holes with, RTV to plug up leaks in the radiator, real crappy flex pipe for exhaust hung with all kinds of wires, stop signs for body repairs, fiberglass floors, you name it I've probably seen it.

I feel lucky. The only thing I have found so far is the cigarette lighter was spliced with duct tape and the homemade manual choke cable runs through a spot under the heater vent. I will change that.
