Yep, looks like your right on the 70. I guess it applies to the 82 also.

One of mine (1971) was built in Atlanta- 2.5 hrs away and the other was built in Flint. A friend told me a story once about working on the truck line in Atlanta, seems the guy next to him on the line was in charge of sealing/spraying the inner rockers of the trucks as they passed. Long story short the inner rockers only got sprayed when the superviser made his rounds. Wonder if that went on at other plants?

I wouldn't doubt it. Heard some stories from the folks up in Michigan also. There are losers everywhere.

production numbers for a plant do not mean that they were all trucks built.the number is a running total of all vehicles producted that year.So in theroy the next vehicle in the plant could have been a van and its prodution number would be one higher than the truck that was on the line ahead of it.hope this helps!!! I have vehicles that were made in canada and the usa.they all seem to have rusted in the same spots, some worse than others but that could be a mantince thing too. |

Mine was built in Tonawanda, NY. It still lives in NY today. Was used as a plow truck and still has minimal rust with no body work done to date.
I believe GMC's were built better.

My 70 Custom Camper 20 was the 596 th truck made in Fremont Ca that year. Funny thing the VIN said it was a stepside, it's a fleetside now.

Don't make sense that one plant out of 11 would have made over half the trucks???
actually it could, that plant may have more capacity, for example most of the plants may have the production line set up to makeup for orders that another plant can't produce. they may make trucks for a while, then make cars or vans or whatever is selling at the time. those plants may not be geared up to make big numbers of anything. but may be considered as additional capacity for the bigger plants. just my 2 cents

Mine was made in Oshawa, Ont. Produced in the highest production year (69) of the 67-72 Truck Series (in Canada Anyway).
I'm actually susprised to see a few Canadian Trucks South of the Border (and even far South to boot)...usually it's the other way around. Either way Good Show.

Starting to believe Flint must have had some pretty good paint setups or something. Tried about every stripper or stripper method known to man and can't get the factory white off (other then sanding/light grinding) lol. But shoot the same stuff on a Canadian truck and it will blast off factory paint. Both trucks were from similar backgrounds and exposure. Any input on this?
