Man if someone ever actually sells a nice kick panel for these trucks they'll be rich, this is at least the 3rd such thread and once again I will say "yes I'd buy a set of these too, I'd like them in basic black to match my carpet, how much and when can I get 'em?"

They are VERY NICE indeed. The reason why nobody sells them is because it takes ALOT of work to make them look that good. I had my door panels made out of fiberglass and the guys who did it said they had over 60 hours in the first one and about 45 hours into the other one. They have been working on my headliner mold the past couple weeks and already have over 20 hours into it and its still in the early stages. Glasswork is slow and if someone had to make these by hand they would have to be super fast and would still only be able to make about $8 hr when it was all said and done. Thats why no one make more than there own set of these.

I don't know much 'bout this stuff, but couldnt a mold be made? There are panels already out on the market, they aren't as nice or functional as the ones here, but I'm sure they are made from a mold. I've seen all kinds of materials and molds on Mythbusters....anyone know how you could make a mold out of these bad-boys??? Those would look awesome in my truck

I had originally thought the same as you and wanted them to make molds of all the custom interior panels they were making for me but they said that the time to make the mold + the materials involved in injecting it everytime would make the panels unafforbable for most people. I told him to put a # on a set of door panels like mine and they said about $500 not covered. If you wanted them paintable then even more work would be needed. Doing one set is ALOT less work than making dies for a mold. Im sure eventually some large injection molding company will develop and mass produce a set but i really dont think that any small timer could make it worth his while financially speaking. Even if you could get 100 guys to pay $200 a set you still wouldnt break even on the materials and equipment not to mention the large time investment. The guys who did my stuff only make molds for aircraft parts because they can charge outragous prices for small parts and if i hadnt known these guys for 10+ years they wouldnt have even touched my trucks interior. |

DAMN IT I figured it would be.
Greasemonkey: any chance you could do a FAQ? Don't need to go into great detail, just what material you used, where you got it, how you shaped it and what tools you used

GHS: I am glad you realize my predicament. There is no way I would be able to make a bunch of quality sets of these with my time schedule.
I will post a FAQ tonight if I have time, they really aren't hard to make but very time consuming.

On the up side ive seen the pro's do it and it isnt that difficult, just time consuming. I think anyone with enough determination would be able to make themselves a set but its just a matter of knowing what to do and investing the time to do it. |

Grease Monkey should most definitely consider openning shop. In the meantime, while he's so strapped for time, LMC Truck sells something very similar with 6.5 speakers for about a buck and a half. I know of someone who had 'em and they work great. That's on this tinkerer's to-do soon too. Hope it helps.

There is a great write up it the FAQ area. It does not look as difficult as I thought it would be, lot of time involved though. I'm going to try it myself. I have a buddy at the body shop, and we help each other out.

Not to hijack this thread, but I would be willing to mass produce some kickpanels like those. If I can get enough of you guys to commit to buying them. I will post pics of the ones I build later tonight.
