I did that too whne I first got my truck.
A new battery, re-earthed everywhere and a voltage reg later. I couldnt figure out why the voltmeter jumped from high to flat back to high when I turned the ignition key... I was sitting watching TV a beer in hand I had a vision ooh ahh, ran down to the truck and sure enough there was an acc position on the key.... d'OH!!!! But it's all cool now. Been there done that hahaha, its not funny and you feel to stupid to tell yer buddies how you fixed your problem...
