It looks like you have good clearance from the top longhorn,the comps are laid out a little different than your super comps.......driv side looks much like a headman,with #1 over the top,& dropping tween # 5 & 7. pass side has # 2 &4 over the top of 6 & 8 then dropping..........sorry i dont have a didgi cam, or I would post some pics...........good clearance on the bottom tho

Yeah, I love these headers..I wish i had some manifolds to slap on there when I go to sell it.

Have the printer buzzing from Hookers site LOL Are the comps anything like the pictures of the Super Comps longhornmail sent in?

Thanks for sending those pictures longhornmail, they came out great that camera takes nice clear pictures. Your plug clearance looks pretty good and you have good ground clearance.

I did notice one or two small previouse owner installed dings for easier plug removal...but nothing drastic by any means.

The pipe layout is quite a bit different on the Comps,still a good fit,& the collectors are same place. they will need a short plug if you are lacing wires over the top,but all in all i like the headers........just wish i had got the ceramic coating

Guys, regarding the durability of the ceramic coating on the super comps, my brother had trouble with the finish when his were about 5 months old. Kinda looked as if rust wanted to come thru the coating. He sent them back to Hooker and they made them good. That was about a year ago, and right now they are decent. Not too bad but no where near like when they were new. I'm not sure what kind of warranty they have on their coatings. When I buy my set, I was planning on getting them bare and sending them to www.airborncoatings.com and having them coat them. Full length headers will run $ 160 ($205 inside and out). This is for aluminum ceramic . They claim is holds up good to abrasions and they back it with a lifetime gaurantee against rust and corrosion.

Well you guys talked me into the Hookers. I ordered a set of Hooker Comps ceramic coated. Hopefully will have them next week. I am excited to see the difference in power in this 383. thanks again for all the help.

headers

I have a '72 that I put a set of hookers on. They fit poorly, and rusted up immediatly. I wasn't impressed. The right side fits tight up to the starter (about 1/2") and heat soaks it badly. I recently purchased a set of Hedman ceramics for my other truck, a '71 shortbed..... there is no comparison in quality, the Hedmans by far are better.
I also had ordered a hooker dual exhaust kit for the truck (with the Hooker headers), that fit so poorly that I boxed it back up and returned it. I had the exhuast system custom bent. TJ

I honestly think that is the very first bad feed back on hooker I have ever heard. I have heard a couple with some gripes, but never totally dissatisfied.
Trouble with shorty headers, you don't get the torque that full lenth headers do.

Hooker Comp Headers

Hello Denny,

On my truck I have had both Hooker comps and Hedman headers. I'm here to tell you, Hooker blew the other out of the water.
I originally bought Hedman headers, but they wouldn't fit and hung down way too low for my tastes, so I sent them back for Hookers (there's a pun somewhere in there that I'm just too mature to make ). No problems so far.

The tubing is much thicker, the headers fit into the engine bay without too much trouble (understand that to me, trying to fit full length headers into a Nova with a big block is trouble, working on these trucks is duck soup) though it may require raising the engine up. The Hedeman not so much,as the only way for me to get plug wires in would have been to bend at least two of the primaries back. And of course you can get quite a bump in torque, or at least more noticable than the horsepower.
More importantly than any of the above though is the vaunted, all important *snicker snicker* contingency tag.

I just fininished up installing a set of Dynomax 86022's on my '72 and was extremely pleased with the fit and quality of the units. Will see how long the coating lasts but they are Jet-Hot coated like the SLP units on my Camaro and they have held up extremely well.

Just got 'er back from the exhaust shop today and they put in the duals, and balance pipe with Flowmaster 40's and the truck sounds simply AWESOME.
