C-30 Rear Brakes?

I have to agree with Longhornman. I made the mistake of digging into the Eaton in the back of my 71 C30 motorhome. After $500 I was the proud owner of 2 sets of bearings that came from 4 different locations throughout the USA. The brake shoes were easy to aquire, the wheel cylinders for some reason were hard to find. And after all that, I had a total failure of hub/lug cohesion and was stranded 600 miles from home with a ruined hub and drum that hasn't been manufactured in 34 years.

The smart way would have been to find a 14 bolt or dana 70 dually and swap it into my motorhome. I would have an extra $600-700 in my pocket instead of still having a now 35 year old rear and have the added bonus of going down to any local parts store and pick up the parts needed to fix a modern axle.

Now you said you picked up a 71-72 Eaton. like I said above these drums are different than the ones you have on your 69 Longhorn. They should be 1/2" wider.

In 2003 I bought four wheel cylinder rebuild kits at $5 a piece for the original 1 1/8" cylinders and a set of 4 rear brake shoes for $20. The hardware, seals, etc are still good so I got lucky. I bought this stuff at AutoZone, but they don't show it on the website anymore, so I'm probably screwed now too once they wear out. These brakes aren't as big as the C30 stuff is though.

Does anyone know about mid 90's ford E-250 vans....how close to a bolt in that may be as for a whole rear end?
I might be making a bulk purchase of 8 vans to sell the engines, trannys, cat converters and starters/alt ad cores, and the rest as crush weight. But if the rears are even close to being a bolt in... I may have 7 rears up for sale.

There was a Dana 60 from a Ferd van under my '69 car hauler when I got it, but it was a little too wide for my truck, so I put in a Dana 70 out a 1 ton under it. C-30 dually rearends are narrower than C-20 or single wheel C-30 rearends, so I think it would probably work out pretty close for a 3/4 ton or single wheel 1 ton.

Did some digging. What is the bore on your wheel cylinders? I found two different ones listed, 1-1/4" and 1-1/2".

none of these parts were in stock at the store, but all were available from the CarQuest Cleveland warehouse. From our store, thats a 2 hr. wait at most. Other stores should be next day.

Just to clarify things.....
I know that my 69 c30 eaton rear is junk with no drum
but what about the 71 c20 eaton that I just picked-up?
Can I still get drums and parts for the 71 c20? or is it ALL eaton rears with part issues?
I verified last night that the drums fron the 71 c20 are smaller that the drums on my 69 c30 longhorn.

I can't verify those numbers, and in reality, no one can untill they buy them and try. I know I was sent 6 sets of shoes before getting one set right, and I gave up on the other set. The brake cylinders I think I had 3 or 4, and the front and rear were not the same p/n....

I remember my wheel cylinders using 1-1/8" repair kits. It has been a while, but that was the main problem I was having. What the book said wasn't what fit into my C30 dually.
