Re: Had to fire my painter

I know this story too. It's understandable that the work isn't as profitable, but I can't figure why shops take on the custom stuff and let it sit forever. I had this happen on my first build and got poor results after pushing to get it out the door.

Our current body man is a good friend and also happens to be an awesome custom builder, although we take mostly insurance work to him. He's got more than one Goodguy's trophies on his paint jobs, that's how good he is. I went to say hello a few months ago and saw a '47 pickup in the shop covered in dust. It belongs to the Owner of Chevy Duty and it was his first truck that started the whole business. It was sitting almost a year when I saw it. Just goes to show you that it's not just the average Joe who has this dilemna. I'm with the rest of you guys learning to DIY.

I know this is an old thread, but a good topic anyways.

Hey - don't sweat it - I was just wondering how Matt's build was doing.
Perfect opportunity for him to come in and tell us.

Re: Had to fire my painter

hey guys.... i loved/love to paint as much as anyone... but PLZ use safety precautions........ the chemicals in paint is very, very harmful....

i have been painting off and on for the past several years...

PLZ use proper air supplied respirators..

Re: Had to fire my painter

Insurance work takes a lot of good painters out of the picture.

You're right. The guy I wanted to do my truck wouldn't because of insurance work. And now, I am less than satisfied with what I got for the $$$.

Re: Had to fire my painter

Well since this thread I fired another painter and hired a new one that's actually making some good progress. I started a thread a couple weeks ago with a progress report and pictures, but it didn't get a whole lot of attention. That thread showed all the metal work done and the front sheetmetal installed and aligned to the cab.

The newest update goes as follows: All the bodywork is done on the cab and front clip. It has been disassembled again, he brought the chassis back Saturday,so we can install the engine/drivetrain. While he was here, he picked up the bed and all small peices. He said he hopes to have it all in primer in the next couple of weeks.

Everything should start coming together in the next few weeks. We should see some color within the month or so. At least I hope so.

A whole lot more than I used to, Dalton, a whole lot more. I would've gone nuts by now if it had been about 6 or 7 years ago. I probably wouldn't have been able to find a painter to even do it for me cuz I would've bugged them so much.
