Re: Closed Knuckle Axle with disc's (is it possible?)

I called it quits and bought a 75 Dana 44 with discs to slide under the truck. $125 on Ebay and all it needs are calipers and pads. Anyone done this swap on a 68 that had closed knuckles?

II can’t defiantly say for sure as I haven’t done this swap, but I’d be surprised if it isn’t a bolt in swap except for possibly your brake hoses. If you need different brake hoses, I’ll bet NAPA can supply you with what you need. Just take in your old ones (both your old drum brake and disk brake hoses and tell them know what length you will need. Your drive shaft should be ok as is.

Re: Closed Knuckle Axle with disc's (is it possible?)

thanks, everything seems to measure the same (leafs, tie rods etc..) and the assymbly looks identicle except for the knuckles and brakes. I will do a write up and hopefully this will be an easy $200 disc upgrade for us 4x4 guys.

Re: Closed Knuckle Axle with disc's (is it possible?)

Makes more scence don't it?? why spend a buncha bucks ona kit to put half the advantage on the old school axle when ya can get the tighter rturning radius and the discs just by bolting in the later axle???? I mean , okay, I can brag that I can put discs on a closed knuckle, but is that worth all of the extra cost and trouble and you still have the wide turnng radius????
Just change acxle!
