Re: My Driver Restore Thread

I knew eventually I'd put a tach in there so when I bought a new lens I got one for a tach. Until then I wanted something to stick in there to add a bit to it. I found the bowtie on eBay.

Pretty good quality. I'm happy with it.

That is an awesome color combo for sure, I really love that paint color. BTW, where is shorewood? Isn't that up by the I55/I80 interchange?

Yep, I live about 2 miles from that interchange. Shorewood is just west of Joliet.

Hey Boise69, Maybe sometime this spring or so some of us Illinois folk can meet up

Re: My Driver Restore Thread

Draggn,
What have you done to the suspension? Is it stock or a 2/4 lowering job? And, what tire sizes do you have on there in post #20? Mine is wanting to look like that, too!

The PO had installed an ECE 2/4 kit before I got it. After the paint is finished I may got to a 4/6. Haven't made up my mind on that one yet. The tires are 255/70-15 BFG's on 15X8" rallys.

The before and after pics are all the same tires. 255/70-15 BFG's. I just had the white lettering turned in when I mounted the new rallys.

I bought the paint from http://www.paintscratch.com It is called Mist Blue Metallic D 1965. I had a 65 Impala that was painted that color and always liked it. No I didn't pull any windows. I just masked everything real good. Maybe someday down the road I'll be able to do a full-on frame-off restore but right now it's a driver. Actually there is no tach installed yet. I bought a new lens and knew I'd put one in someday so I bought the tach lens. I wanted to stick something in the tach hole so it didn't look too empty and found the bow-tie on eBay. I like it. Thanks for the compliments on the interior. Glad it's done.....I think!

Hey this is my 200th post!

Re: My Driver Restore Thread

Interior is looking great. Dash bezel is very nice and I really like the interior color. I used to not like carpet in trucks but after I spent some time on this board I got swayed and now my K20 has carpet - your carpet really brings that interior together. Very nice!

Re: My Driver Restore Thread

WOW!! What a transformation! I LOVE that blue, and the black . The colors look great together. Do you have any exterior shots? How did you get those headlight shields to go on? I bought some at a swap meet in Pomona, California and each time I tried to get them to fit under the headlight ring, it just kept pushing it off.

Re: My Driver Restore Thread

Figured I'd throw out an update. Got the new Rally's mounted and turned the BFG lettering inside. I'm gettin her ready for paint. Goin with the Hot Rod Flatz black paint from www.kustomshop.com but I'm tryin to decide if I'm goin to leave the top white or paint it black as well. Or maybe shoot the top the same blue as the interior? Whatdaya think? I think I'm gonna shave the marker lights too.

Re: My Driver Restore Thread

I know you will cringe when I mention this, but did you think of painting your wheels a contrasting color to give it that true OLD SKOOL look?
My truck is flat black with blue interior too, but I am going to paint it a custom way, with bright blue on the top (hood, roof, edges of doors and tailgate, and then silver below separated by a single red pinstripe.
While you are working on the body, I would go ahead and eliminate those side marker lights too. Are you going to lower it any??

No cringing here I have thought about it but will wait until it's painted before I do the rims. If I go with the silver-blue on the roof I was thinkin about paintin the rims that color also. If I leave the roof white or paint it black I'll figure something out. I like the idea of using the blue on top but not sure how it would look. As far as lowering it, the PO had already installed the ECE 2/4 drop. I may or may not go lower. I'll make that decision down the road!
