If I say I would rather have your ride also, would you also add me to the list for your truck?

Seems like every car out there has something like that on their write up that they have posted in their windshield. I think it's to persuade some of the less knowledgeable buyers into thinking it's rare or will apprectiate in value astronomically. Kind of like those Barry White "Super Muscle Cars", or cars built by Foose, Boyd Coddington, or Troy Trepanier.

On a good note, someone at the Barrett-Jackson office must think it's going to go for a pretty good amount of money, since it has a relatively high lot number. Barrett-Jackson always seems to arrange their lots so that the super rare or cars they think are going to bring a high price are on during prime time on Speed. You can actually get a pretty screaming deal out there if you go on the first day or the last day of the event and stay away from stock type cars. For example, this one guy had my company look over a fairly stock GTO that he bought on Sunday for $40K that had some really nasty bodywork done to it. He couldn't afford to pay for one of the GTOs that went on Friday or Saturday, but he had some money burning a hole in his pocket and wanted a GTO. Too bad, really. On the other hand, every year I've been there have been some really nice cars that went on the first day for considerably less than $10K. If I had the money, that's when I would go.

The company I work for has sent me to the last three Barrett-Jackson shows out in Scottsdale. It's amazing how quickly you get jaded by the stuff out there. After a while, an original Shelby Cobra or a 69 Z-28 with the DZ302 in it all start to look the same. Since our higher-ups seem to have fallen out of favor with Barrett-Jackson's higher-ups here in this past year, it doesn't look like I'll be able to go anymore. I was basically a remote IT department for my company's inspectors, but since I'm a car guy it was a good fit. It was great to meet John Moss, Carroll Shelby, and a bunch of other cars guys who only other car guys would appreciate.

Sorry for the long post. Looks like I got to rambling. I still have all kinds of pictures from out there.

I can see it now:

This item for sale is one of only two factory exhaust manifolds ever used on 86swb's legendary truck!

This bumper was on the truck when I bought it,so I can't take credit for the work or idea.Stock bumper bolts welded up and 2 pieces of pipe cut to length, expanded at local muffler shop then welded on after holes drilled in bumper for lights. It's alot cheaper than lmc's bumper.
As far as the truck on BJ it's too loud for my taste. The work is very nice I'm just a little old school I guess.

Re: Another Barrett Jackson truck?..

Ditch the side gills, the front spoiler, the rear cab and tailgate faux spoiler mess, the sunroof, the grill........I'll pass, especially for the stupid Barrett- Jackson money that they'll get for it. Chevy got the design so right when they were new that when radical mods are done to them, they start looking like a 1980s style mini-truck.

On the subject of B-J, I personally feel that they have destroyed the car hobby. As much as I can't stop watching the show because I love cars and am anxious to see what's coming up next on the block, I have to cringe when I see cars like an "Eleanor" Mustang CLONE sell for 150K. I get sickened when they show the bidding wars go on between two rich yuppies who really have no clue that they are butt-raping each other by over-bidding on a over-valued car. The idiot with the Ferrari hat who bid 2 million on the '54 Olds concept car a few years ago took the cake. He told the other bidder that he was going home with the car no matter what, and the other guy got pissed and bid him into the stratosphere, and he wound up paying about 500K more than if he would have kept his mouth shut.

I guess what makes me the most upset is that I can't buy a running 67-69 Camaro anymore for under 15K. They want 10K for junk parts cars that 10 years ago we bought just for the mouldings for $300 complete.

73-87 trucks are the best deal around, and I hope this profit-taking attitude doesn't ruin them as well. Sorry for the rant.

Re: Another Barrett Jackson truck…..

You can't blame auction houses for the inflated collector car/truck prices...you can blame the people who bid and pay for them.

It doesn't bother me that some vehicles go for crazy amounts of money, I am just glad they see the vaule, collectibility, and importance of these machines...it will keep them around that much longer.

BTW - the truck isn't too bad. I don't care for some things on it, but it is a nice truck and the craftmanship looks pretty good to me.

yeah high prices are good for our trucks value...but,it's just like the housing market ...cool when your selling at that rate..not so cool when buying.

Re: Another Barrett Jackson truck?..

I do agree with what you guys are saying, I guess what bothers me the most is the fact that the days of finding a good deal for a sensible price are rapidly going away. Maybe I should start looking at from a seller's view, and just be glad that what I have is worth way more than it used to be. Hell, I've got more projects than time, anyway.

It's 9:00 central, and they're on lot# 1310 with two hours on the air to go. Looks like this one is going during the day tomorrow.

I seriously doubt we see it on the air. Probably will be shown during commercial. I haven't even seen any 67-72 trucks as of yet.

So was it televised or not? What do you guys think of the price it sold for? Alot of vehicles are sold for less than the cost of the build, and I bet that includes this truck.
